So I got a notice to get my emissions done. I thought cars over 10-years-old didn't have to be done in this state.

lucky. i believe in colorado, all 1981 MY cars and newer need to pass emissions.

Yes Earl, that my car needed its emissions tested was implied - I didn't start a thread complaining about my needing a urinalysis.


So its been like 5 years since I've done this, and never with an awd car. Any advice?

I don't have any ideas - I have never had a urinalysis, I mean an emissions test.

Don't freak. I had it done. They stick a probe in your gast tank and then they ask you to plug something in your cigarette lighter. You put your can in park and run it 3000-3500rpm or something like that. Then they take a measurement at idle and that's it. You are in P the whole time. My car had 180K on the odometer and passed like a champ -- no additives in the fuel. And if you're worried, have somebody else piss in the cup Oh, and don't refrigerate it -- you will fail (happened to a buddy of mine).

Cool, that doesnt sound so bad Tuz. According to my car's records, she passed her last emissions with no probs, so I don't anticipate any difficulty this time.

Yeah it's a breeze they can't spin your tires with awd...yet.

in colorado they do a dyno test. awd, fulltime 4wd and traction control cars have designated lanes.

That sounds kinda strange as Colorado doesn't have near the congestion of other states...but Washington I'm sure will follow suit....eventually.

the denver-boulder-greeley-ft. collins metro area is home to almost 3 million people. plus it's a mile closer to the atmostphere. denver's air used to be really bad in the 80s. people were advised to not leave their homes on certain days in the summer and we still can't burn wood in the winter. we've had emissions testing for as long as i can remember.

c'mon mitch, it's not that bad. actually, traffic near the tech center is far worse than the trap is now.
