weird "stall"

i dont know if anyone else has experienced this, but when i give it full throttle in first gear, when it shifts into 2nd it kinda stalls for a second, then goes. its weird, the thing just sits at 4k rpm for at least 1 full second. bit anoying really, cuz the cars im beating have time to catch up, and the cars im pulling on gain ground when that happends. anyone know what this is?? a mechanic drove it, he says it doesnt feel like a trans problem, he says it almost feels like a fuel governer of some sort that was ment to be there. help me out PLEASE

Could be the trans "brake band" clearance is too wide. FSM states symptoms :engine RPM increases abruptly while upshifting 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4th.
Try a search for "brake band" to locate info on how to adjust it.

I believe you're referring to the feature that gives us our smooth shifts. The ECU cuts engine power during the shift to smooth it out and save some wear on the tranny.

The stress of "losing to a Tiburon" is nothing compared to the stress of losing certain mechanical function of the vehicle.
Get it checked out by a professional.

Get a 5 speed!

I guess a better response is - has it always shifted like this?

The 6 spd's are having their issues as well. (synchros, 5th gear)

It does look much beefier when compared to a 5 spd tranny side-by-side though.

If you abuse something it will break.

very true, me and the guy at the subaru dealership were talking, and he was talking about the 5 speed, and stated that he would go towards the 6 speed. hey says that the 5 speed is good for the wrx, but says if i plan to do "stuff" to the svx it couldnt handle the torque. he also said they have only had one bad 6 speed yet, where as they have fixed 5, 5 speeds this month. but the price difference is almost enough to make me get the 5 speed. 6000 vs. ebay 600. ???? what would u do

Get a 6 speed for the coolness factor. Get a 5 speed for the price. The SVX engine can more than make up for the missing gear.

What I would have liked to see is the gears from the 5 spd in the 6 with an extra gear on the end for more top speed/lower cruising RPM.
