Tremendous heat from the 4EAT
I drove alot today...maybe about 45 miles of city driving...bout 20 highway miles or so. I felt some heat coming inside the car and got a little concerned. I felt near the radio and near the accelerater pedal and felt heat coming in the car. Maybe this is why the inside of my car is always warmer than usual. It also takes the car a longggg time to cool off. I can turn it off..go inside and come back 4 hours later and it will still be hot. i dont have an overheating problem but damn this car produces alot of heat. Definitley time to buy that AT cooler

Yeah that's very common in these cars. I notice a bit of heat coming from my center consol/ pedal area as well when I drive.
One of those little quirks you gotta *learn* to love about these cars... -Chike

the thing i hated the most was how there was very warm air hitting my legs when i was driving. I didnt have anything on in terms of the climate control. I hit the button to close the vents and the air stopped coming. Got me worried that i was going to have an over heating problem. By the way chike im going to PM you about something i need info on!

if you drive with nothing set on the climate controls there is air that hits ur legs. In warm weather it is warm air....the type of air you would get if you pressed vent. To stop this from happening i press the "circ" button and the air stops from coming in.

Yeah that engine gets pretty hot. Do both your fans work?
I insulated my exhaust pipes and cats to cut down on some of the heat.

I have just about had it with all this damn heat from the tranny. It was about 75 degrees today here in NY and wasnt all that humid. I was driving the SVX today and the cabin filled up with hot humid air. The heat was coming from the radio...center console...ect. would having my tranny cooler solve this problem of heat coming into the cabin? I have always wondered why the car always stays so hot on the inside and now i know why. This is why i never have to use the heat in the winter....oh well at least theres some good to it

Re: Tremendous heat from the 4EAT
Realizing this is an old thread, I have the same problem of the center console (specifically, the driver side of the tunnel which seems to heat the area under the radio) and solved it. I picked up a 36" x 48" sheet of DEI Reflect-A-Cool and covered the transmission tunnel with it (from the underside) from the flare at the firewall back to where the shifter penetrates the body.
It is good for 2000 degrees radiant and 400 degrees contact temps. Of note is my SVX is 5MT swapped and is missing the heat shield that normally goes in the tranny tunnel. That probably would have made the temps a bit more bearable and may be part of other folk's issue. In any event, the stuff is self-stick, 2mm thick, and very easy to cut and apply. I did have to clean the road grime and undercoating off for it to stick, but it comes off with paint thinner and paper towels. URL to the manufacturer's product page: http://www.designengineering.com/cat...s/reflect-cool The price on DEI's site is a bit nuts- I paid about $50 shipped for it and have quite a bit left over. A 24" x 24" sheet will probably be plenty. |
