Chassis work, help appreciated...
Hiya, I plan to do necessary replacements of my chassis parts and need some info about what make/manufacturer I should use for doing my brakes (front and rear rotors and pads), shock absorbers (all four) and summer tires (I prefer quiet ones).
I did small search around and found out that: - Brakes : Brembo does not make disks and pads for SVX:-( Subaru parts extreemly expensive - Shocks: Koni seems to have shocks kit but official distributor in Czech Rep. told me that they do not - Tires: I want not top performace but quiet ones, prefer GoodYear but no experience on SVX. Now I have Michelin Pilot Sport which are KO.. I need only parts which can be bought in Europe as all of them are too heavy for buying them in states... Thanx for any info, advice. Peter |

Try EBC for brakes, they are hard to beat and are available europe-wide.
Have a search on this site for part numbers.

Running gear
Hi Peter
Can help with some parts. Last year I changed my pads, got the parts from Halfords in Belfast, and they were as follows: Front Ferodo FDB 641A @ £49.73 Rear Ferodo FDB 790 @ £47.74 Prices are in Sterling. The tyres I have been using for the last 3 years and 50,000 miles are Sava Rapidex tyres. They are good in the wet, good under braking, grip well and really, really quiet. I can't recommend them enough, and to top it off, you should be able to buy them for as little as 90 Euro or so each, particularly if you buy from the German on-line tyre sales website. The name escapes me for the moment. See the Sava site: http://www.sava-tyres.com/eng/samx.e...ail&pojdi_na=1 Strangely, the site does not list the 225x50x16 size I have been using all along in Rapidex pattern, but the newer Intensa model has our size listed. My dealer still says he can get the wide size Rapidex for me, my car is due a new set anytime now. Andy has used discs from POTN, and I am sure he can confirm they work really well. I am going to buy a set of fronts for my service, now overdue. Check the site, they will ship to you I am sure.: http://cars.potn.com/product_info.ph...ducts_id/39541 Price for the racing discs is £134 Sterling per front pair, not expensive, and the standard fronts are £124. Can't help with the shocks, but if you use the search function, you will find plenty of references to them. In my opinion, the extreme cost of looking for something like Konis is not justified, as the standard equipment shocks are so well matched to the spring rates. Others may disagree, but that's my opinion. Joe

Thanx Jo for advice, as for Koni, 600USD is not too much, as I remeber I spent almost the same for my previous car Opel Vectra B shocks for both Monroe (Do not recomend anybody) and Sachs (worked perfect)
I will check Subaru originals... Peter. |

Joe is right, except that the discs I bought are the EBC ones, not the ones on the POTN site.
I am more than happy with the performance of these parts, but the added advantage is that they are virtually dust-free, therefore the wheels do not require cleaning continuously. I have Yokohama AVS sport tyres which have incredible levels of grip, both in wet and dry. The steering tightened up greatly with the new tyres, with much better turn-in. Probably not too good on snow. I cannot comment on the noise as my wheel bearing need changing. www.ebcbrakes.com

Hi Andy, how much miles/kms you did on these disks? I know that SVX is heavy car and not all disks can "live" with that :-)

About 5k miles so far, including a heavy stop from 135mph.
The driving here is very hard on brakes, but I have not had any fade or problems at all. Very impressive kit.

Police have internet too. What price were the discs Andy? The EBC PDF took forever to download! I hate Hate HATE pdfs!!!!! No indication of how fast it is loading, how long it may take, what percentage is loaded, how much time is left!!!!!. Just turn your machine over to Me and kiss it goodbye till I've finished downloading. Either all the programmers at Adobe were trained by the Third Reich, or else they won't talk to the Seattle people because they were all brought up on Dos or Mac. Either way, it can only appeal to people who go off to have a cup of tea or coffee each time they accept the download of a PDF file. Maybe they should offer the people on a normal modem dialup a message explaining they may as well turn the PC off, and make coffee, as wait for the return of their control? There has to be a better way Somebody figure it out, any time soon!! Joe

I had same problems downloading that EBC catalog :-((((
It stopped at 87%. 176 L is pretty much, if I count all four disks and pads I am on the price at which I can get it from Subaru - Original ones :-( Peter |

OEM better
Peter,
That is £176 Sterling for two front discs. I don't think that is too bad. The original OEM discs are flat metal, and are prone to warping. The EBC and 3G discs are slotted and drilled, and so have a better way of dumping the heat from highspeed stops. If the OEM discs were £40 cheaper, I would consider them. At the same money, I would be looking for an improvement. Joe

FYI
The Pad and Shoe catalogue downloaded for me. All 289 pages of it. Every bloody car on the planet! Even though I thought I was downloading the Subaru sub-set.
The pad codes for the SVX are as follows; Standard pads: F DP691 R DP821 Upgraded sports pads[Greenstuff] F DP2691 R DP2821 No prices that I can see, just a list. Joe

I need both all disks and all pads, I already communicate with EBC UK trying to find some dealer near to me. I can not imagine transport cost for such a heavy stuff :-)))
