Chap Stick Addiction

So I have a chap stick addiction...(9 years) and tonight I have decided I need to quit, so cold turkey it is...it's been 3 minutes and I am already having withdrawals

this sucks but has to be done. DONT BECOME AN ADDICT!!!!!!!

Basically....well I think its the menthol in it, but it's not necessarily bad, just a burden...search for chap stick addiction on

and you'll find a site that tells you all about the addiction....33 minutes and still clean !!!!!

That site is the most ridiculous effing thing I've seen in a long time. Hey, here's a hypothesis for you guys. Maybe Chap-Stick isn't addictive - maybe you're all just friggin' obsessive-compulsive.

I don't mean any offense to you, Pete. Sometimes, even after all these years, I still can't believe the stuff I see on the web.

Edit: I also can't believe, after all these years, that I'll be taken by a humor site like that. For crying out loud, after all of the similar sites I've seen, you'd think I would have learned my lesson by now.

Like Alan said, just take up smoking, it works for me. Plus, they do make menthol cigarettes, if thats you problem.

yep...day two of the saga and im already a puss....i used it last night...but i did go "sober" for 2 hours! ill go for 3 tomorrow

Pete, I stay away from the lip balms that use crude oil products, like petroleum jelly and the other renames, as I THINK it can't really be a good thing for MY lips. In fact I think it dries them out. I suggest you try drinking more water as that works for when the lips are dry.

(I have edited the above because I have no proof of this.)

yeah the one i use now is 41% petroleum...ill try to find like some kind of all natural one maybe that will help...i drink a lot of water as it is, i think it may be a mental thing more than a physical dependency...whichever it is it sucks. that was 2 hours of hell for me.

I would look for something to back that up before I just made a blanket statement like that. Sure, if there's convincing evidence that petroleum-based products like that aren't good for you, then by all means stay away from them. But how long have we been using Vaseline and such? Nearly a century?

After a quick look on the web (with Google, which Doug never would have thought of using), I found nothing to support the claim that petroleum-based lip balms were harmful in any way. I did find some claims that skin isn't able to breathe or excrete quite as well when a petroleum product is applied, but no evidence to support the claims. Besides, I thought that was the point. You put a petroleum-based lip balm on to keep your lips from losing moisture.

Actually, one lady went so far as to recommend this process:

"Put a cracker in a cup of water and another cracker in a cup of baby oil. Let them sit a minute. Watch what happens to the cracker (representing your skin) in water. Now, take the cracker out of the baby oil and break it in half. Puzzled... well, you could keep that cracker in there from here until the end of the world and it'll still be crisp just like it popped right out of the box!"

What's her point? That water dissolves skin and mineral oil doesn't? That skin is similar to a baked or fried snack product?

It's ridiculous pseudo-science like this that drives me up the friggin' wall. What's my point, after all this? If you think something's bad for you, well, maybe you're right. But for crying out loud, look into it first before you come to your conclusions.

hahahaha when i did stop using it for those 2 hours, my lips started to hurt and get chapped almost immediately...i know that in time that will go away but it hurts lol and idk if i can handle that...on the bright side i have soft lips for all those fine ladies out there
