Now I can see from the picture that the cone is placed directly infront of the intake hole so this might not be an issue. Anyone have any thoughts?

Paul, check out SVX10, he put his cone filter in the fender well where the air resonator goes, nothin but ambient air. I also saw where someone was going to build a box to inclose the cone filter and get air from the fender well. I think SVX10 has the best idea.

About the PVC, I've heard that PVC piping puts off some kind of fumes when heated???? On a discussion group I belonged to when I had my Nissan 240sx it was advised not to use the PVC method because of this. I can't say I have anything to confirm this though.
I just removed the air resonator from the fender well, it was totally PVC.

All I did was use an adapter at the MAF sensor and then some PVC pipe to route it to the fenderwell. From there, I strapped in a K&N cone filter and vrooom.....

It has better pickup than before and even sounds kinda cool.

Chad, I would be interested in knowing the lengths of straight pipe and types of elbows that you used. I don't understand all the concern about when it rains, that location is where the stock set up gets air.

I finally posted pictures of my intake setup. Find pictures in my Personal Locker.

The elbows are 2 90's and a 45 I believe. I used a 90 closest to the MAF sensor and the other 90 at the fenderwell. It's 3" PVC. I coupled it on the outside because I couldn't get any 3" tubing.

The filter is a universal K&N. Got it for $50. It's more straight than a cone. There's a good foot or so of length that you can get in there pretty easily.

It has not made that much difference.

Is the air resonator still in the fender well?

I took that out of mine shortly after I bought it.

Doesn't do anything but try to keep noise level down.

Also, the "angled ridge" in the plastic on the bottom of the wheel well cover has a hole in it. I had done that last year. I'm not too worried about water getting in there.

I'll try to get pic's ASAP.
So is your new setup sucking the same air as the old setup? Any holes cut in any thing in the fender well?

I took out the resonator and there is a rectangle cut in the bottom of the fenderwell skirting towards the front of the car where there is an angled part. If you look underneath the front of the car you can see it.

Chad,

When you cut that out of the plastic, did you put a sceen in at all, or just leave it open?

I just cut a hole in it. There was hardly any debris in there, so I didn't worry about a screen.

It has a little bit more get-up-and-go. A buddy of mine has a 944 and I kept up with it no problem.
