Manual
Missed a couple of your questions, Arthur.
Yes, while Manual is on, it will ignore 1 and always starts in 2. It's designed to make the most of the high torque engine in slippery conditions. In 1, the car would tend to spin the wheel with least grip, thus losing tractive power and digging in the car deeper. In 2, it gently tries to give even torque to all 4 wheels. Going from D to R while the car is rolling will absolutely wreck your box. Don't do it. Going from D to P will do just as much harm while rolling. No go area.! Get in the habit of not holding the release button on the selector, the detente will save you from doing harm while rolling. Joe

Reverse thrust
The above is a non-svxual reference.
You are not a jet pilot by any chance? Were you thinking of a better way to bring the SVX to a shuddering halt, and shake up all the duty-free booze?? Joe

I just had this imagery of a 1989 prototype on a final approach to a carrier, a la Top Gun, with the JDM-only arrestor hook deployed!!
As for the booze......who knows!!

Hi Countess
There is an SVX'er from the Blue Mountains who would be keen to be able to get the wreck of your SVX - I've sent you a PM Cheers James

Plenty of owners would love to break traction, particularly the ones interested in the quarter mile sprint. Harvey {Ob-Au} says if you have a five speed box and fit a lower final drive ratio, you can paint black marks all day, even in 3!! Joe

manual lock-up switch?
Greetings down -under SVXers....was reading your thread, brought to mind my last trip to the dealer.
The mechanic there has several SVX's, and is always "tinkering". He was showing me how he had devised a way to control the engagement of the lock-up via the "manual" switch on the selector knob. He took me for a little ride in his SVX, very interesting - the car actually behaved like a standard shift car, actually stalling out in first if you stopped. Of course it was a short drive so I can't comment too much on the performance or driveability - but he seemed to love it, claimed it had improved his gas mileage too. He offered to do the setup on mine too, but I don't think so. I prefer to leave the SVX as Fuji Heavy Industries built it....

e-manual
I think the wiring for keeping the car in POWER mode is pretty simple. Before I bought mine, I read about in in the FAQ. From a driving standpoint, it works much better if driving purposefully, moving along at pace. It holds the lower ratios, and shifts up well. At slower speeds, it is not so good, as the shifts can be jerky, changing up as an afterthought if you stop accelerating. For me, this is better than the standard mode, which changes up too too quickly. You could be in 4 [top] at 40 mph on a gentle throttle, but the shift quality is a whole lot smoother. Possibly the best compromise of the lot is drive in 3 Normal for city use, and put on POWER mode for main roads and highways for overtaking ability. Joe

Hi There, I'm back,
Just catching up on posts and read about this manual 'lockup' mode and the reply from Joe about being able to 'select' power mode. In my '92, power mode is applied automatically depending on driving style, is Joe infering that later models can manually select power? This manual shifting sounds a bit like some of the early Porshe electric clutch boxes? Continuing restoration questions; Has anybody in OZ tried to get rear wheel bearings from the US? What's a good price for O2 sensors? Does anyone else have a problem filling their tanks? OK, I'm going over to the new thread for the meet ps, Yay, I got my avatar to work Arthur.

I found that if you put in the nozzle up side down when filling the tank you wont have a problem

That's weird, Kienan, but sorta wonderful also.
Maybe this only applies to Down Under motors?? Joe

The MANUAL we are referring to is not like tiptronic, or manually selecting with the lever. It is a mode for the auto box. When selected by the button on the gearchange lever, MANU. lights up on the dash in yellow. The box then skips 1 range etc. Joe
