Programmimg mode

I've read the posts about programming the remotes but still can't get my '92 SVX into programmimg mode. My original remote works fine but I bought a new one to replace a lost one and can't program it.
Here's the procedure I've been trying:

To program the alarm:

1. make sure alarm (SECURITY) button on car is off.
2. turn key (ON) then back (OFF) (key only-not ignition)
3. push alarm button rapidly 8-12 times, until your horn beeps (AND CLICKING SOUND IS HEARD FROM GLOVE BOX).
4. push alarm remote button (FOUR TIMES -- IF YOU HAVE TWO REMOTES, PUSH ONE TWICE, THEN, THE OTHER TWICE -- FOR A TOTAL OF FOUR) to activate it.
5. turn car (ON -- KEY ONLY, NOT IGNITION -- THEN BACK OFF).
6. MAKE SURE SECURITY SWITCH IS ON AND RED LIGHT ON SWITCH IS FLASHING.
7. MAKE SURE ALL DOORS AND TRUNK ARE CLOSED.
6. and hit remote button (HORN BEEPS ONCE TO ARM/LOCK, TWICE TO UNARM/UNLOCK -- IF SECURITY SWITCH IS OFF, YOU'LL HEAR THREE SHORT BEEPS AND THE DOORS WILL LOCK -- BUT ALARM WILL NOT ARM.

I still can't get to third base (but thats another story) - no beep, no clicking. When I push the security button in step 3 it turns on with 1st press and off with the next etc. Is it supposed to do that?
Could it be the contacts on the "box" even though my old remote still works?

You're using the correct procedure. There is a small antenna wire that is soldered to the batery contact. Perhaps it has come undone. Just something to check. Yes, the security button is "spring loaded" and will alternate on and off with each press.

Randy,
You wouldn't have a picture of that antenna wire's connection would you??

I don't know about that "8 to 12" since I had to push the button around 40 times.

I finally got into programmimg mode. I think I was turning the key all the way off. There is the first position where everything is off and you can take the key out, second position where the radio turns on and the third where all the idiot lights go on (and of course the fourth where the engine starts). I tried various combinations of off- on i.e. position 1-2, 1-3, 2-3. I was so surprised and happy when I got in programming mode (after only about 5 or 6 presses) that I don't remember which combination I used. Now both of my remotes work and I don't want to mess with it.

Thanks,
Rock
