Gas gauge

How far can you go when your gas gauge is on empty?

For me? About 350 miles.

My gauge is on empty by the time I leave the gas station, so I go by miles every tank. Many (if not most) SVXs have faulty gas gauges, so they indicate "empty" within a mile of filling up. I've only seen my orange "low fuel" light a couple of times, but if I recall that should indicate another 2 gallons left giving you about 40 miles to find another gas station.

Does your gas gauge actually work?

Re: Gas gauge

that greatly depends on what you are calling `empty`. On my silver, once it hits the last line on the guage, it has about 4 gallons left. On my laguna, i have about 6 and a half gallons when it hits that line. Both end up having just over 2 gallons left when the gas light actually comes on. As for my other 2 svxi, i haven`t driven them to find out since the pearl has a bad HG and the claret hasn`t been registered since i bought it to fix and sell.

Re: Gas gauge

Well in my 92, when it gets to the line for empty I have 8 gallons left.
When I fill up from the E line, it only takes 10 gallons.
The Get Fuel Light comes on when my needed is in the middle of the letter E on the gauge.
And then it still has 2 gallons in it.

I have found that you can go until you run out of gas!

Yes, the tank holds 18.5 gal. The best way to check it is to drive until the light comes on or the needle is on a point that you want to call empty and then fill it. See how many gallons it takes to fill and subtract that from 18. That way you will know how many gallons you have at that point. Good luck.

No, just when you are almost out of gas. I don't see mine much either, mine doesn't come on until the needle is below the last line.

Re: Gas gauge

I was unsure if my get gas light worked, so I ran it down to E and kept driving, and kept driving, and kept driving, and 100miles came and went, and I kept driving, and then eventually the light came on and I got gas. It still only took 16 gals.

Re: Gas gauge

lol well since im always broke, I always see my gas light on

Actually I can go close to 100 miles when my gas light illuminates, and its been consistent that way since ive had the car, so when it comes on I milk it until I can; but i have wrecked feul pumps so I try to not make that a habit.
