Stevebsy bargain Big Brake Kit concept thread

This thread is more for conversation/theory/discussion, and also so I won't forget all the stuff I looked up

I started my research based on seeing SVXfiles Big Brak kit with the relocated SVX calipers.

We need at least a bigger rotor, and to either move the current calipers out farther, or find a different caliper that we can bolt on to the SVX with minimal modification or bracket making.

SVX Rotor Specs per EBC's catalog:

Diameter: 300mm (11.81")
Height: 57mm (2.244")
Thickness New/Min: 28/26mm (1.102/1.024")
5 holes and vented

To make a simpler swap, we need to be similar in height and thickness and have the same bolt pattern (5x114.3) but with a larger diameter.

I took EBC's excel file and sorted to see what I could come up with that is close enough...and found a few candidates:

Dodge Magnum:
Diameter = 347 almost 2" bigger!
Height = 55
Thickness = 28/26
bolt pattern = 5x115mm

STI:
325 dia x 55 ht x 32/29 thk 5x114.3

Lexus GS300 2005+
334dia x ? ht x 30/28 thk 5x114.3

Nissan Skyline GTR 93-94
324mm dia 54mm ht 30/28mm thk

For calipers, we can follow what the WRX crowd has done and use the Nissan 4 piston aluminum calipers, which are sometimes expensive. What I found is something similar - Toyota pickup calipers, which have a similar design, but are made of steel.

If I get a chance, I'm going to autozone to check on some of this...be back with news...

discuss amongst yourselves..

What about bolt pattern and inner circle diameter?

And how will you compensate with the difference in rotor height?

Re: Stevebsy bargain Big Brake Kit concept thread

those calipers will not work without fabricating a mounting adapter. I own a 1990 300zx TT and I am using it just as was mentioned. i am taking the braking kit off and putting it on another Nissan, my 240sx. I went ahead and tried test fitting the calipers and the bolt layout for the Nissan is way smaller. The two bolts sit much closer together on the Z than they do on our SVX's. However, almost the exact same caliper sits on an FD (mid 90's) Mazda RX7 and it does appear to have the wider gap between the main bolt points. I have not yet had the opportunity to test fit them, but hopefully I will soon. A friend of mine has an FD and I plan to steal his brakes for a day. we shall see.

I can confirm that everything he says about the 300zx caliper is correct. I bought one and test fitted it to an svx. the mounting points are too close together, and too car in towards the rotor.
