Drilled rotor direction?
So in the for sale area there was some discussion on which direction the vanes and drilled holes are suppose to go. While at the Chevy/Subaru dealer today I was looking at the Vettes on the floor and took some pics with my phone.

Re: Drilled rotor direction?
The drilled holes likely match directional vanes inside the rotors. Those would be correct as "pinwheel" orientation.
Slots are up to much speculation... Manufacturers' advice, designs, and suggested installations will vary (StopTech recommends "buzzsaw", but dba uses "pinwheel"). All told, unless you really really use your brakes, it probably doesn't matter.

Re: Drilled rotor direction?
Eh. If you've got stock wheels, set them up to match the direction. Looks cool.

Re: Drilled rotor direction?
I just thought it was odd that each side went in a different direction. I'm assuming that they use the same rotor for both sides. When I installed drilled rotors on our Baja each side had the holes drilled so they were going the same direction.(directional rotors?) Oh and the pics are from a Z06.

Quote:
Stand facing the PASSENGER side front wheel Salute the front wheel with your RIGHT hand Now look at the angle of your hand, your fingers are pointing the direction that the slots should go. On the DRIVER'S side, do the same thing, only salute with your LEFT hand Now wasn't that simple?? .

Re: Drilled rotor direction?
Yes, and that's grand, but if you read <this post>, you can see that it doesn't apply across the board, whether car by car or brand by brand.
If StopTech advises "pinwheel" for their rotors for the SVX, then that's the way to face them. That doesn't specify direction for any other brand, nor any other car.

Re: Drilled rotor direction?
The direction of the slotted rotors doesn't matter IF you have standard (non-directional)vanes (straight up and down slots...this can be viewed when looking directly down on the rotor if the rotor were installed). However, if you have directional vanes than placement will matter, and directions from your particular manufacturer would be advised.

Re: Drilled rotor direction?
Chris is absolutely correct, the slotted veins within the rotors vary based on application. Our cars have neutral (straight outward) veins, if you were to x-ray our rotor it would look like an elementary school depiction of the sun... straight rays from the center outward. I am referring to the RaceConcept and a few other "cheaper" rotors.
Now, once you get into more race spec stuff, and perhaps modern cars, rotors have more of a "hurricane" like pattern designed to create more flow during movement. My .02, -Sov13t __________________ |
