Because it is more likely to be the TPS [throttle Position Sensor] or a faulty atf temp sensor. Or even it could be the transmission computer. For most people overdrive will mean 4 Range. Just to clarify, do these guys actually mean the car is not locking up in top gear? Or that the car is shifting back to 3 by itself?? Joe

if the rpms are dropping and raising as you give it gas/let off on the gas that sounds like the torqe converter to me. it sounds like its locking and unlocking.

TCU codes 32 & 33 cover speed sensors 1 & 2.

If it still holds that code it still "sees" that problem. Follow Trevor's advice. Fix the speed sensor problem.
If you do both the code should go away and the lock/unlock problem. Joe PS BTW when in 3 range the gearbox does not lock up. That's why you don't hear or notice the fault in 3. It only applies to D4 range, that is, to overdrive. It's a feature to reduce fuel consumption at steady speed.
