door leaks where windows meet

I went through the car wash the first tine today in the SVX.

Water leaked in at 2 points.

- On the passenger door where the window rolls up into top glass - the seal leaks from the top piece of glass.

- The rear window behind the driver seat. Not the one that opens and closes, the fixed one leaked a trickle down from the top.

HELP!!...

My car had a leak in the upper rear side glass. Is the glass firmly fixed in place, can you move the top edge of it at all?

This glass was glued in place with some kind of silicone sealant. On my car the silicone had dried out and cracked. I could move the window enough to get a knife blade in and cut away the remaining silicone. Then I removed the window, cleaned it up and glued it back in again.

If you can't get the window out then the other option is to try and squirt some silicone sealant in around the edge to seal it. But it that doesn't work then you will have made it even harder to remove the window.

You have to remove the garnish panels on the outside too. Be aware that the clips will break off and need replacing.

Mike,

It is possible that the windows have been replaced at some point or another, or a defective adhesive was used. Soe years back, there was an automotive adhesive on the market that auto manufacturers and auto glass installers used that would dry out over time and the installed glass would almost be able to be pushed out.

Regardless, the proper way to remedy this situation would be to remove each window completely and reinstall the glass using an automotive-grade urethane-based adhesive such as Sika SuperTack (Hot-applied) or Dow BetaSeal.

Let me know if we can be of any help, as we have access to said materials, tools, etc.
