The drips must stop!
Hey guys, wondering if you can help me. I am tired of the drips on my driveway and it is time to
do something about it. I took it in to the stealership about 2 years back and was told that my front main seal was leaking as well as and I quote, "wrist pin inspec. cover leaking and oil pump-declined. Okay what exactly does that mean? He told my that they have to pull the tranny to get to it? Any info on these two seals, like what's involved to change etc..would be greatly appreciated. I think my PS unit is also leaking so my plans are to swap it out as well as put new timing belt covers on just cause my current ones bug me. I thought about pulling the motor and getting that entire seal kit but from what I’ve read on here, it seems to be beyond my abilities. Thanks Blue |

Wrist pin inspection cover leaking? Well i guess anything is possible but I highly doubt it. He's talking about a plate on the back of the engine that covers the area that vents the crank case.
Usually the main oil leakers are valve cover gaskets and the intake cam plugs. Intake cam plugs are the easy ones; you don't have to take off the timing belt gear or the crank pulley just the timing covers on either side. Valve cover gaskets are a pain to do on the car just because it's so tight but it is doable. |

if its coming from in between the eng. and trans. you may want to reseal that cover and replace the rear main as well. Also check your pcv valve. all the extra pressure is helping push the oil out.
I ran into a similar problem...put a rear main seal in...still leaked..got to pull the tranny out again.

+1 for resealing the separator cover and replace the rear main at the same time. If you cover is plastic get the new metal one.

Thanks for the quick responses. Why is it I can't find any of these seals on Subaruparts.com? I can't find this cover there or in my manual?
Well I was looking at the rear seal in my manual and it looks like I have to pull the tranny all the way out to get to it. Any service i could do to the trans while it's out? |

Okay I found the parts finally, wonder if I should replace the oil pump while I've got it apart? Now I just need to get my courage up to pull the tranny
