First time I saw an XT (6cyl, early 1998) I thought it was stupid looking. At that point I didn't have a car so I bought that stupid-looking thing a year later for $1500.
Probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. After having it a while all I ever wanted was more Subarus. It was quick, felt great, a head turner, and far more reliable than any SVX. That thing was beat to death and everything still original at 149,000 when it was hauled off to the scrapyard before I could finish the 4eat to 5mt swap in early 2003. Worst decision someone has ever made for me. Ofcourse the xt 1.8 is almost an entirely different car, fundamentally they are the same and should treat you right if you take care of it. One thing though, be wary the rust. These cars rust like no tomorrow.

It was a "Kit" available from the aftermarket, and no one has been able to find any numbers of how many were produced... Not sure where all it was offered, but know you could get the kit here in the states, as a few have been spotted.

My fwd Xt6 is faster around an autox course than an SVX is by a few ticks plus you can't knock any 6cyl car now that'll get ya 32mpg in mixed driving if you drive it right. I'm currently trying to beat my previous record. I think I'm right around 36mpg with 1/3 of a tank left.
Its definately not for everyone but it is definately the most reliable vehicle in our household. Including the 03GT.

So look at it today and impression is good (1.8 Turbo). Guy who sell it is a Subaru fan and mechanic and know a lot about these cars. He plans to buy SVX:-).
It is a funny car. I saw import from Swiss which is best country in Europe you can buy a car. No rust, lot of dents, engine sounds good, some oil leak but it is an old car. Looks much more simple than SVX. The worst thing was interior. There was problem with roof window. Generally have good impression from car but it would took a lot of time and money to bring it back to original state. I have received offer for 3 cars (two for parts) for price of 3000 Euro, which is not too bad. But I would rather pick some in better shape as for interior... Petr
