made an attempt to fix jerky cruise control

Ever since doing the 5MT swap, the ride quality during cruise control has been somewhat jerky. I was able to reduce some of the jerkiness by putting the cruise control cable on the correct throttle cam (got switched during the 5MT swap), but here was still some jerkiness. Today, I tried Harvey's suggest fix of partially pinching off the vacuum line going to the cruise control throttle cable. I pinched it off almost completely and took the car for a spin. Pinching helped, but didn't get rid of it. The jerkiness is a little more mellow. Anyhow, just thought I'd mention it in case anyone was wondering if it worked.

I notice it on mine but it's not very noticable on mine. Pinching the hose would probably eliminate it completely for me. How did you pinch yours?

My first attempt was to reduce the cross section of the vacuum line by inserting a section of reduced size tubing using a couple of plastic tubing size reducers. That didn't do anything, so then I pinched down one of the plastic reducers with a pair of pliers. It looked completely pinched down, but still flowed air.

I tried something else last night that seems to be working even better. If you look at the cruise control cam on the throttle body, you'll see that the trough for the cable is pretty deep. I removed the cruise control cable, filled that trough almost entirely with silicone sealant (put a groove in the silicone using a screw driver), let it dry overnight, and then reattached the cruise control cable. In order to have some slack in the cruise control cable after filling the slot, I had to move the outer cruise control cable jam nut to the inside and let the throttle cable housing act as the jam nut on the outside. It just fit. Filling the trough causes the throttle to be opened less for a given amount of cable pull, so now the cruise control doesn't yank the throttle as much. Seems to be working great so far.

Dave, the fish pond aerators use a clamp type, that you can easily adjust the amount. There may be some medical clamps that will do the same thing.

Harvey.

Thanks for the info. Now I'll know what to do if/when I get annoyed with my cruise control. For the record I get a bit better mileage when I don't use my cruise control.
