trans cooler lines switched - big problem?

Hello all

Finally got around to installing the trans cooler. it got a bit complicated hooking up new cooler in parallel, plus temp switch, plus shut off valve to new cooler for winter driving. Anyway - i think I switched the hoses on the stock tranny cooler. I drove the car about 20 miles so far. I don't yet have external filter of any kind.

Any ideas on if this is a bad thing, a REAL BAD thing, or a 'Uh Oh - time for a new tranny" thing? Should i immediately re-swap the lines?

Can anyone tell me for sure which line goes to which stock cooler input? I've seen the diagrams, but can't trace the lines all the way back to the trans to see which is rear line and which is front. When looking at the lines under the car, one is nearer driver side and one nearer passenger side. Does the pass side one hook up to pass side trans cooler line?

Thanks for the help.

Haven

It may not cool the transmission as well, but I don't think it did any damage. I would definately get them put back where they should go though.

Did you change all of the lines? The hoses are different length and can only go where they are long enough to go to. Have you checked the How-To Docs to see the different diagrams. One of those should show where they go. If they don't, post again. I am going to change my oil in a few minutes and I will try to get some pictures of it for you. Try my locker under filter and look at those. I think there are some pictures of the lines there. The line that hooks up to the filter comes from the tranny.

The pipe nearest the centre of the car is the flow from the trans. The pipe nearest the driver's side (assuming a LHD car ) is the return to the trans.

thanks

Thanks guys. Earl - I looked at the pics you had from installing your external filter - that showed that the outflow from trans, inflow to cooler is on pass side of cooler. B3 - your input re: tube closest to center is outflow from trans. Putting thest two together tells me what I needed to know (and what I suspected). Since I added all the other components (temp gauge, valve, etc) the stock hoses are no longer used.

I'll try to get this switched back asap and hope for the best. I'm trying to find a filter to install next. I should have done what Earl did, but bought the wrongs parts and waited to long to return them. Oh well.

Thanks for your help.
