Question about fuses...

OK, so I'm going through my car this morning as I took it to the dump to be weighed and I find a fuse (#10) just sitting in my glovebox where the previous owner must have placed it.

The fuse has not been blown so I pop the hood to see where it came from... When I open up my fuse box, when facing the engine, I notice the slots for two #10 fuses on the bottom right hand side of the box. 1 fuse is in its place, but the other slot has some nasty gunk and is missing the fuse completely!?

What do these two fuses control? How should I clean that gunk out before popping the new fuse in? Could this be why my CE light has been on?

Thanks!

-Chike

This is just a guess here but could it be the "Fwd" fuse and the empty fuse holder spot??? As far as that grease i figured it was some type of dielectric grease or something so i left it. I could be way off on these though. On the cover of the fuse panel it should say what fuses are what.

Looks like I found my answer: FWD/AWD fuse thread

Seems like that gunk in there is non-conductive grease and since my car is AWD, that slot should be left open. The #10 fuse in my glove box should be used in an emergency to disengage the AWD transfer clutch...

Yes, mine also has that "gunk." It's grease intended to protect that particular fusebox slot, which is normally open. (When I noticed that my heart sank, because at first glance it looked like the remains of a melted fuse.)
