Weird engine trouble!

First thing in the morning, and only when the gas level is low (before the light even comes on), my car seems to have a problem. Those conditions have to be met. Even after the first start of the day despite the engine being cold it does not do this:

As the temp guage starts to reach the warm level the engine begins to studdar... has a difficult time shifting down and then stalls out completly. If I pull off and restart the car it studdars at first and then clears right up and never acts up again the rest of the day. I talked to a highly educated back yard mechanic and he said though he knows nothing about imports, he suspects it is a fuel mixture system that regulates cold start to warm engine running that is not switching it over correctly?? Sounds like the problem to me but what should I be looking for to be replaced or fixed and ideas??

Thanks,
-G

Has the check engine light ever come on while the engine is warming up?

If so pull the code

I'm not sure what exactly is causing your problem but a couple items to think about are:

- MAF sensor
- Coolant temp sensor

There are no light that come on.... except the other day after it stalled and I thried to restat it the power light was flashing about sixteen flashes... I have been noticing the problem keeps getting sooner after start. If you do not drive the car and let it warm up it will not have any problem but if you leave before it is warm then it has this problem.

Question rough idle?

Sounds like the rough idle intermittent problem I've had for about a year! Temperature sensor (2 wire) is cheap, but didn't help me. The best help for me was to use fuel system cleaners several times and octane boosters. If you want to see all I did, search for Rough Idle or /Shuddering under James Scott starting last November.

Let me know if you get a magic answer! GOOD LUCK!
