saved myself $200

so my rear wiper motor was busted.. wiper wouldn't turn. i hopped onto the used parts network, found one for $25 in PA, and had 'em mail it to me.. got it working in 30 minutes, then called the local Subie dealership..

"how much to replace the rear wiper motor in a '92 svx?" i asked them..

"well, lookin' at the part and an hour's labor you're lookin' at around $240," they replied.

feeling pretty good about myself, i promptly told them where they could stick their $190 wiper motor, and hung up..

this is sorta like the guy at the tire store who wanted $115/tire for Kumho Ecsta's BEFORE installation..

Remember that when you need them to do a technical repair that you are not capable of. It is nice to have them around when you can not do the simple repair work. They have to make a living too. Don't get me wrong, I like to save money too. I could not afford my cars if I had to have the dealership do all of my maintenance and repairs like some people do. Just smile when you know how much you saved, and put it into a sock for the next time you really need a repair - new tranny anyone?

Good job, I am proud of you and your repair. Doesn't it make you feel good when you get a job like that done and realize how much you saved yourself! I feel like that when I get the wiper blades or my oil changed! It pays off to do a little shopping and monkey wrenching!

lol thanks earl for your two replies.. there are some things which i know i am not capable of fixing myself.. internal engine issues, internal transmission issues.. i like to think that with the proper tools, i could swap trannies myself, but i don't think i could take one apart and put it back together properly..
