Why not Shift a SVX manually?

Does any body know why various mechanics are saying "dont shift your SVX manually". "Or why not use second gear." There has been a lot of hoopla thrown around about shifting a SVX manually and its damaging affects and it is quite confusing. I would like to figure out why this is damaging what does it do when you use Manual mode. If I recall correctly Subaru installed this feature to manually controll shift points. If Subaru didn't want you using it they wouldn't have installed this feature.

Kevin, while I can't understand the statement...why even make a post like this? If you don't like what someone states you can question it, answer it, or ignore it. But it takes rather large cahoonies to just throw out a post telling someone not to post at all. You've made some posts that I don't agree with, but I would *never* tell you not to post messages. (Forgive me if I'm misreading the post, as I said, I really don't get your point.)

Unhappy

And just how are you going to yak on your cell phone, guzzle your Red Bull, shave AND shift at the same time? God invented automatics for SOME reason. I 'spose you could manually shift ANY automatic without any premature grenading unless you choose to redline every gear, all the time. Your choice. Please don't complain about poor gas mileage, though. Tsu.

I changed my post. I wasn't attacking anybody but I know if I say something. I need to have some reasoning behind it. If you post your opinion or what you heard from so and so people will ask questions. If you cannot answer the question that is fine but you can't get mad at them for asking Why?

Ah... they install the manual mode so that we kill the tanny and we give them more money -- the bonus we get is that we get nice Gs while driving. No... just kidding. I will check the manual and reply in a bit.

This is what the manual says...

"... The MANUAL mode is used for driving on slippery surfaces such as snowy roads or mud, or for smooth driving at a constant speed when going up slopes..."

-- 1994 Subaru SVX owner's manual page 6-12 : Manual Mode
