Screen in original 92 atf cooler
Does anyone have a picture of where the screen in inlet to the orginal atf cooler in radiator is located ?
Or if someone could tell me how to check it. I have a 92 svx, but im not sure if its the original radiator in the car. Planning of removing the screen if possible. Need to put in a extra cooler too. And i need to put in a external filter for the atf, also concider to put filter on both outlet and inlet line to the tranny, to catch any sludge from the atf coolers or lines, does anyone know if 2 external fliters would slow down the flow of atf too much ? |

The Bronze mesh is right through the cooling pipe that runs through the bottom of the rad. It is not ment to be a filter, it is used to increase the cooling effect of the oil flowing through the pipe. It can't be removed. You should reverse flush the cooler pipe to remove any debri in there, then fit a ATF filter to the inlet side to prevent it from getting blocked again. As you live in a cold climate, you should fit the external cooler after the filter, before the radiator cooler, to ensure that the ATF comes up to operating temp, or the torque converter clutch won't lock up. Two filters would be to much restriction. You must ensure that the filter is for Automatic ATF operation as an engine oil filter is much finer and used with much higher pressures, and would restrict the cooling flow too much. This oil flow is at a very low presure and is pumped back to the box to lube the shafts and gears. All the best with your SVX. Harvey.

I didn't see the mesh in any of those pictures but I guess it would show in a close up.
That cooler has a bend in the inlet and oulet pipes. The newer cooler does not. I looks like the inlet and outlet pies came out of the bottom of the radiator and not the side as on the newer one. The inlet and outlet point straight out on the newer one. The cooler looks about half the size of the newer one.
