svx frame
svx commuter which front sub frame bolts are you refering to? I wanted to check them on mine.
I had a bunch of volvo 240's and they would need the frame bolts (heads) seen from the eng compartment along the main frame rail-very common for them to loosen. |

Yup 19 would be the babies and they are impact wrench territory.
The 7's hold the lower control arm to the subframe. I have lossened and degreased and retightened. The svx weight must be on the wheels when tightening 19 or 7. Mike, was it you that found a sheared rubber bushing in the subframe of a part car? I am about ready to take the front sway bar off the SVX and see if all the noise goes away.

I found some sheared bushings, but not in the front (at least I don't remember seeing that). It was the bushings that hold the tail end of the rear differential where it attaches to the rear subframe. The interior of these bushings looks a little like the radioactive hazmat symbol, and at least one of the "arms" was completely broken off and just held in place by the weight of the drivetrain.
I have looked at a couple other cars and this seems to be a common problem, and I would guess that it is the cause of a few of the mysterious driveline "clunks" that people complain about from time to time. One of these days, I am going to try filling the hollow portions of the bushings with some 3M window weld and see if that firms things up back there. It would be interested to hear from some people with newer/lower mileage cars to find out how these bushings should look, where the bolts are relative to the circular holes in the rear subframe when the car is sitting on the ground. I have seen them anywhere from slightly below center, to very close to the bottom edge of the circle.
