Transfer Clutch Pack

I noticed that I no longer had any power going to the rear wheels. I sent 12v and gnd to the right pins on the connector and I could hear the solenoid clicking so I figure that is working OK. I pulled the extension housing off and was happy to see that the inner clutch part was still attached to the gear. So that only leaves the clutch pack right?

I have a spare tranny that has the inner part broken off of the gear and I was comparing this clutch pack to that one. In this one, the disks are all loose (there is a gap greater than 1mm so it is very loose) and the clutch pack from the other tranny is very tight. The only thing is that when the inner part broke off of the gear, little pieces of metal got in around the plates.

My question is what is all involved in replacing these plates? Is there a specification on how thin the plates get before you should replace them?

Dan

They are just like the clutches in a dirt bike, simple to replace while you have them out.
My tranny guy says the clutch disks are only a couple bucks each...so you might as well just buy some new ones...

I dont know which parts to replace. http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=170-A Is it both 1 and 2? That would be $160.

The number 1 and number 2 show a line to all the plates, so that price is for them all, not each....so get both, but the organic ones for sure, the steel plate can usually be re-used, but as cheap as they are, I'd just get both sets...

Ouch...might check with some local tranny shops about ordering them for you...
