What do you think?
Okay, I've used the search function, but have not found anything pertaining to my (maybe) problem.
Just a little while ago I had to go run an errand, so I start the car and am ready to pull out of my spot (turning the wheel left) it made a noise...the best I could describe it is take 2 rubber bouncy balls, wet them, and rub them together vigorously. So I think ahhh my croc shoes are wet and they rubbed against the plastic stuff on the hump (under the dash) so I proceed to go get gas and when I go to pull out there is that sound again, but I made sure my feet weren't touching nothin' but the pedals...so then I think..the tires are wet maybe the tires made the noise so I go to my kids school do what I have to and put the car in reverse I made sure my feet were on the pedals and I didn't rotate the steering wheel when not in motion...well, backing up there's that blasted noise...now it's starting to annoy the crap out of me so I get back home, put Peej in park and decided to turn the wheel back and forth to reproduce the noise and yep there is was....so I thought Hmmm maybe my fluid is low so I checked it and nope right at the full mark. The noise happens when I turn it both ways. Got any ideas what I should look for?

Re: What do you think?
Okay, now I am completely going to guess...
Does it sound like perhaps the belt is slipping due to low tension on the PS/Alt Pulleys? As I understand it when you reach the biggest angle with your wheels that is where the PS has to work the hardest to turn our heavy wheels. Just guessing though. Otherwise, my second guess is some sort of a bushing gone bad... which one, not sure -Sov13t

Re: What do you think?
Power steering pump? Can you put the car up on jack stands and have someone listen at the front of the car (hood up) while you turn the wheel?

Re: What do you think?
I think you forgot to remind me to retighten the belt after we installed the new one last week.

Re: What do you think?
Sov13t, thanks for your guess, but what I think you are talking about is turning the wheel lock to lock. All I did was turn it a small bit and it would make the noise. As for the bushing, that's a good possibility.
SVXRide, not immediately. Hocrest lives 64 miles away and all my stuff is there. I just had my 15/20 mods done and my rear wheel bearing done so I know nothing was touched up front, but on the way home from AWD I did run over a rigs tire shrapnel and a large carcass (large as in guessing opossum size), but that was last weekend so I don't think that had anything to do with it. I have to jet to class so if I think there is any change I'll post. *Or maybe I think Hocrest forgot to retighten the belt after he installed the new one last week. I looked at the belt and it is still in one piece. I didn't check tension, but that could be done tonight. It'll be heaven if that is the problem.

Re: What do you think?
Okay...belt was tightened this morning, but that wasn't the problem. It is still making the weird noise.

Re: What do you think?
Mel, mine started making a funny noise when over in Essex at the annual meet. Somewhere in tone between a groan and a whine.
We did some listening to it and it was in the PS pump, when cold. When warmed up it went out of it. Now that I'm back a week it is now there full-time, but I have not driven the car much to be honest, nor did I do diddly squat about fixing it. The noise in mine is from cavitation, air bubbles in the pump. This is usually caused by air getting in the squashed seal below the reservoir, the well known O ring fix. Shame on me because I actually have a new one here. Somewhere. Switch the car on and have a listen under the hood. If the sound narrows down to the PS pump, good chance that's your problem. Joe

Re: What do you think?
Melis,
Defititley replace that O-ring first thing, as it's cheap , and very likely the culprit....if that doesn't fix it (make sure you get all the air out after you get the new O-ring in) then I'd replace or rebuild the PS Pump....

Re: What do you think?
Try spraying the swaybar bushings with some white lithium grease.
