You are getting more bang for your sterling there Andy, those figures look good.
I take it you are considering a new Forester, and buying with the PPP package? I mentioned to Arthur in an earlier post that the 2.0 turbo Forester my brother brought in from Japan comes with a different turbo and much more power than the English/Irish one. About the same as the standard WRX I think. At first I thought he was spoofing. That is until I saw the figures on a website [I'll find it and send you a link]. And till I drove it. It is really quick. Would you consider importing a late model car yourself? All the horsepower, and save a few grand. Joe

Go for it.
The figures look good. You should get it fitted to the velotecknik while you are at it!

Just need to convince the wife
"honestly love, it is just for the extra pulling power when I tow the trailer"

I have confirmed the suspected pipe has a tiny hole in it. No UK stock so it will take 3-4 weeks from Japan if I order one.
I am now told trying to weld it will be risky, it may bugger it completely. The hole is in the middle of a straight section so I am wondering about either cutting it out and getting a sleeve turned to join the two bits together or wrapping it with carbon fibre mat soaked in resin. Does anybody have any ideas on what sort of epoxy I could use to glue the tube into a sleeve etc. The other possibility is to use a plumbing fitting with olives. ....Andy ! any thoughts ? |

Its Fixed.
After cleaning it and etching to key, I used araldite (the stuff that is workable for 2 hours). I used a piece of 1/2" dia Ali tube with a saw cut down its length (so I could fit it over the pipe) to enclose the whole thing and stuffed it full of epoxy. Split grommets sealed both ends. Cooked it in the airing cupboard for 5 days. It stood the pressure test and is now re-gassed and working. It was caused by the foam rubber seal around the radiator rubbing against the ali tube, over time the foam had rubbed its way through the pipe. Its a pig to get at, but worth doing something about before you have the same problem. A couple of inches of spirap sleave would protect it. |

I was thinking it would be difficult or impossible to weld. Even with a mig, the pipe is so light, it would just melt and sputter away. We will have to get this fix of yours posted up in the Hall of Fame, the FAQ section. Joe

Joe, I 've added two pictures in my locker.
Before I fitted it I added two small jubilee clips around the sleeve, just nipped up to be sure the resin is held in compression. |
