O/T - What were they thinking?
Has anyone seen the new RX-8? It looks like a Lotus Elan ran into the back end of a Citroen 2CV. Add a couple extra Saturn coupe rear doors and you have a total dud. *clearing a space next to the Aztec*

I've seen it and do not recall thinking it was too bad looking. I will have to pull up another pic to have another look.

Purposeful.
Beav,
I like the RX8 a lot, but I would admit the shape is not so easy to fall in love with as the RX7 that went before. However, I think this idea for the secondary opening door for the rear passengers is brilliant. I first saw it on some Ford show car, and Mazda obviously ran with it. ALL big coupes should have these doors, and I will tell you why. The door of the SVX is so long, it has to swing open quite a distance from the car to leave enough space to get out of the car [big opening radius] The car I almost bought before the SVX, the Lexus/Soarer coupe, has even bigger doors, and thicker, need to be opened extremely wide to gain exit. Result of this is, I tend to park off centre in car park spaces to allow my driver's door open enough. This puts my passenger side closer to the next car, and my whole passenger door and side panels are studded with door dings from other car users banging mine on the tight side. Anyone else suffer from this problem?? Joe

I will reserve my judgement until I see it in the flesh, (or on my drive.)
I must agree with you Joe on the door thing, although I don't have that problem with my Honda.

i'll agree with Beav on this - the RX-8 is really hard to look at. i thought the last gen. RX-7 was a really beautiful car, and then they go and make this....thing?!?!?
Beav, what do you think of the "2005 SVX"?

The car looks fine. Just too many curves on the body if you look at it under the light... That's all.

I saw it in person at the Detroit Auto Show. One word: UGLY
It takes the great heritage of the RX7 which was beautiful every year it existed and trampled it. That's why I hope Subaru will never bring back the SVX model. Doug

The RX8 is just a typical Japanese hodge-podge styling rip-off and a poorly proportioned one at that. My opinion is that those responsible need to return to designing toasters, frying pans and can openers, they certainly have a lack of originality. I wonder why they didn't feel the need to include something from a Pinto and maybe a duck with a floppy hat on the hood.

RX-8
I thought every picture I had seen of it made it look goofy, until the recent Autoweek that featured it. For some reason, it looked better in their pics. I guess I will have to wait and see one in the sheet metal, so to speak.
I believe Saturn has a model with a similar design for "rear" doors. Doesn't some truck also have such a feature? Don
