Oil Question Resources
http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi
- found this site, seems to be pretty good at answering every question about oil, grease and additives. An oil geek's dream. http://www.ems.org/oil_depletion/story.html -someone on this site wanted to know the total volume of oil produced on this here planet. Seems the estimate is 940 billion gallons. You do the volume conversion, I've done the hard part. |

I posed that question a while ago, & wonder how many of us really know what a "barrel" of oil looks like. How many gallons in a barrel? Are we looking at beer keg-like things here? So...to get a visual handle on things, will 940 billion gallons top off lake Erie,.... Superior,... or the Carribean Sea? I mean all I know is my fish pond is 125 gallons, & the fish prefer water. Ron (boggled mind as usual).

940 billion gallons since when? The question was how much have we taken out since it started, and how big a hole would that fill. I have no idea, but I calculate that to be the displacement of approximately 687,000,000,000 SVX engines (give or take a few). |

Does that mean that we should have been talking on the other thread about how many miles per dinosaur we get? I guess it would depend on what kind of dinosaur!

Are you saying that herbivoires give more "gas" because ofthe ruffage in their diet?
If that's the case then we can clone some soon (ala Jurassic Park) and feed them beans. We should have all the "gas" we'll ever need.

Interesting note: The percentage of gasoline produced from one barrel of crude oil varies depending upon the type of crude, refinery design, and processing conditions. This ranges from 20 percent (8.4 gallons) to as much as 75 percent (31.5 gallons). A typical fuel refinery will obtain 45% (19 gallons of gasoline) from each 42-gallon barrel of crude.
