You bring up some good points, although you never know how things will change in the future. So right now, I'm just trying to build with the fastest solution.

Ok, now even though this is an SVX Forum, I think we can still discuss Computers because some of use may plan to put one in their cars...ok, Lwin is for sure, but that makes it OK, right?

I've been turned on by these cute little Shuttle computers, Intel based, plus I saw a very nice Mac(sorry forgot which one) has a 16/9 aspect flat panel, and it sits on a translucent upsidedown bowl, plus it the mouse/keyboard, and its pretty nice.

So pretend your computer illiterate. What should you buy.
I used to say buy a PC( I work for IBM), but now I say, buy this Mac. All in one, doesn't depend on Bill Gates, and has sex-appeal.

If you like computer(playing around with them) buy a tower and fill it with neon lights and hang out at any one of the Rice sites(no offence ment).

I'm going to get a Shuttle X ss51, it has everything, plus I can add my Extigy and GF4-4400-128 video. Plus file it with a P4-3G,and 1Gig of DDR, and its smaller than a shoe box. I expect it'll heat up like a toaster, but then I get that extra appliance for free.

So when you start comparing Apples to Oranges(PC), in the end they still taste good, fill the whole, and fit in a lunch box. The rest is just personal preference.

When we meet, I will tell you a little secret on my car computer. It's smaller than the suttle computers. Has a AV out and Vid out. You name it it probably has it.

I know the PPC's don't compare to the Shuttles, but can your computer heat the car?

Nope it's not a PPC. It's an actual PIII or celeron 1Ghz machine about 6"x6"x3" ish and it runs on 12volts.

Comes with CD, or CDRW or DVD/CDRW options.

10+gig HDD depending on your configuration.

onboard 10/100BT NIC, USB ports and Firewire ports (optional).

Cost 600-1200 USD

Phil,

You can install linux on those. I personally might install winME (don't go there -- that is the quickest winblows MS made) or BEOS.

Hey I've seen a version 3, friend of mine just came back with one from HongKong. He's using it in his Porsche Twin Turbo for running engine tuning stuff, it even came with the interface and software.
I'll see if I can get some pics.

I have a complete barebone version of version 3. I can get it in any shape. Barebone system without anything is around 450ish. I really like that unit. Small and has everything in it.

I'm looking at the Shuttle SS51 for $399CAN
It has all-in-one, just add HD, CPU, Memory, and CD.

But the P4-3g will cost me $700CAN, I may have to settle for a 2g for $400CAN, plus memory, the rest I will just migrate.

Hey, I just added you to my Yahoo, turn it on/Authorize.
