SVX speakers

i'm gonna post this in the mods section as well...

My right-front speaker (not the tweeter) is buzzing very badly whenever I turn the volume up to a resonable level. I don't play music really loud or turn up the bass, and it has been doing it since I got the car. It is really frustrating b/c i really like the stock system

If anyone knows about this problem i'd love to hear about it. If you think i just need to fix the mounting, i'm more than ready to do that but i have never taken the door panel off on an SVX and it makes me nervous. If anyone has old speakers from an upgrade, whether stock or not, i'd be interested in purchasing them

thanks

Don't post another thread. One is enough.

The stock door speakers are paper and if yours is more than 5 years old, which most SVXs are by now, it may have become brittle and cracked. If you're going to replace the speakers, I would go with a pair of cheap $30 poly rather than the original stock paper cones. The door removal procedures have been posted in detail in previous messages. You should be able to find it easily with a search.

Taking off the door panel is really very easy. I think it's only like six or seven screws holding it on, and, of course, the little plastic clips. Once the screws are off, all you have to do is give a little tug and it should come off pretty clean. Remember to watch out for the auto door lock wiring though. It's got the button in the plastic and is connected to both the door and the plastice via wireing. So when you take the panel off, dont go for a walk with it. The button comes out of the plast pretty easily also. And when you put it all back together, make sure you keep tabs on the button or else you might have to reopen the door because you forgot to put the button back in it's slot.

My speakers were doing the same thing. I called the junk yard and got a couple of used ones. They work great. They are real easy to replace. It should only take you about 15 minutes to do.

Like "Queen," get the stocks if you can. It's an easy replacement. A/M speakers will necessitate modification to the brackets and so forth.

One source of "buzzing" is the lock lever. I stuck the "loop" portion of strip of "hook and loop" fastener (some call it velcro ) on the back of the lever to eliminate that buzz.
