Can we get someone at Subaru in Japan to make a wav file? I can just think that THEY would find this thread hilarious.

We need to get a designate Subaru Japan employee on this Network. I think that would be fun.
Oh, perhaps we should ask for an individual who is at least bi-ligual, you know, English/Japanese. I'm sure we must have at least one member who works for Subaru of America??? Anyone???

There is no 'L' or 'C sound in Japanese so 'RU' and 'SHE' are used as they are the closest sounding. A better English pronunciation would be AL-SEE-OH-NAY.

I have a friend who just CAN'T stop saying "Hermione". I like "Antigone". Somewhere, long ago, when Subaru first became known in this country, one of the auto publications printed the pronunciation as "su-BAR-oo". I wonder who's got it right. Us? Them? Or Them trying to imitate Us, or vice versa. Ron (twisting tongue).

"su-BAR-oo"
I have heard it pronounced that way by some WRC announcers.
They also pronounce "Hyundai" as "HI-un-dye". Don

I used to have a High-and-dry.
paid $500 for a pony, drove it for 2 years, somebody offered me $500 for it, so I said ok. So I got the oild changed for him, for the first time. Just to let you know, I respect my vehicles much better now.

You could add in Su-Bar-oo for good measure also. |

In romance languages, including Latin, I presume, the daddy of them all, the "e" vowel at the end is pronounced eh. Each vowel will be given the same length, and the eeee sound is reserved for the vowel "i" This would imply Al sigh ohn eh. However, if Randy is right, and it's from the Greek, then not sure about the "e" ending, I don't know Greek phonetics. Joe

Alycone is actually a constellation, i think we are looking too in depth with this. Personally i think subaru was just going with the constellation thing, the subaru symbol is of the seven stars and the brightest being the Alycone. Just my 2cents

Us southern Italian types do pronounc-eh the 'eh' sound at the end of the word. The northern Italian types (Rome, Milan, etc.)think that that pronunciation is too 'low class' and do not say it.
