Fuel Pump Question

Does anyone happen to know the level of fuel needed to completely cover the fuel pump while in the tank?

Reason being is that I have been maintaining a near minimum amount of fuel in the car while its in storage. I keep enough to make sure the fuel light isnt on but I do not know if that would be enough to keep the pump submerged.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Good question, I'm doing the same thing. What is your reason to cover the pump? Corrosion?

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Im more worried about keeping the pump lubricated if thats the correct term. Its sitting in storage and i wont be able to drive it for a couple of months at least.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

I have noticed that a few owners put their svx's in storage for the winter. I actually enjoy driving my car in the snow! Anyway, my question is: what do you do about insurance? Do you get a break because you use the car less than a year? I'm curious.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Yes I get a reduced rate for being parked for 5 months. I drive my '92 all winter but park the '97 since there were only 51 sold in Canada and I figure it's worth saving from the salt.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Thats also a good question.

I typically just provide the mileage amount which places the car in the lowest driven tier and explain that its not a primary vehicle. This tends to be around 5000 to 7500 miles depending on the insurer. There are also "Pay-as-you-drive" options from some companies but I do not have much information on those.
