Possibly, but he would not have needed them if he hit a bump!!

Joe

PS: What are these "controlled and legal conditions" you mention? You don't suck or inhale or what??

Talking My results not typical

My mileage : 34.5 MPG pure highway @ constant 60 MPH
25-26MPG hwy/rural mix
19.5-21 city-stop & go

I run synthetics throughout and have ( no laughter) one of those magnet things that clamp over the fuel line. The magnet does nothing for the mileage in stop and go traffic but at constant highway speed it added 3 miles per gallon to my mileage.

Since adding an aluminum pulley I expect mileage to go up in all areas

Suck vs Inhale

Exactly ! To paraphrase old BJ Clinton , "I didn't inhale and I never had sex with that woman ! "

How long of a trip are you on when you get 34.5 miles per? I would like some more details please.

What I want to know is how you manage to keep it at 60 mph on the highway. I can't even set the cruise control that low! It just begs to go faster until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death

No such number

No such phone.

Elvis lives!!

There is no such a thing as steady 60 mph in an SVX.

Not in my Plum Crazy anyways.

Re: My results not typical

Would I be correct to assume that you are in Kent, UK and are referring to Imperial gallons?

Actually, I live in Washington state USA. I have hopefully fixed my profile to end any confusion.

I finally got everything up to date. My average fuel consumption for 146,664 miles is 19.254 mpg (I have used 7617.267 gallons).

The maximum I have gotten is 28.24 mpg and the minimum was 14.18 mpg. Obviously the max was highway miles. The minimum was in the winter in snow and probably jammed up traffic as well.

Wasn't the original EPA rating something like 18 city / 25 highway? Anyone? That's more or less what I get.

edit: I found it 17 city / 25 highway

That isn't bad at all considering that you drive mostly around town and it's a 230HP engine

I'm sad :0( I think I've maxed out thus far at 16.5 mpg. This past fillup I averaged it out to about 13 mpg. This is all everyday nonhighway driving on Premium gasoline, but still I'd expect it to be a little closer to what is 'advertised.' But hey, atleast I'm not alone out there with this.

I guess the next thing to do to this thing (after I replace the broken visors next week, both of which are pretty much snapped off and droop terribly and are currently held up against the roof with two wires and some paper clips, macgyver style) will be the spark plugs. I seriously doubt that they have ever been replaced in the cars 97,200 miles, since the previous owners really seemed to have done nothing to contribute to the upkeep of this car in their three years of ownership, aside from replacing the timing belt, which impressed me. Perhaps I will see an improvement once the plugs are taken care of.

Good plan

Make sure you give it a new air filter as well, and use a spray cleaner to do the intake plenum chamber.

Also, your consumption is high enough to deduce you must be racing it away from the lights all the time, or else you may have other problems mechanically, maybe dragging brakes, or faulty tranny[is your lock-up clutch working properly?]

If the mileage does not pick up a good bit after the plugs and air filter, you may look into amending your driving style, or mending some other engine problem.

Joe

HangMansJoke,

At what altitude do you live and drive as this can effect fuel consumption and yours appears to be excessive ? It is usual to provide a little more info in ones profile but I see that you hail from " parts unknown ".
