Car Jacks for SVX

What is the best brand for car jacks?
Where do I buy them?

I see Torin and some cheepy brands at Pep Boys.
Are they safe? Durable?

Naturally, I will need one that fits under the SVX.

Is this for the road and a flat tire, or in the shop?

I saw an aluminum one at Costco for under $100 that is a very low profile. It is light and if I needed one, I would probably get that one.

Avoid trolley jacks (the ones with the removable handles). Just get a decent floor jack. 2-1/4 or 3 ton will do fine. Northern tools and harbor freight both will usually have some good ones for pretty cheap.

Trolly Jack = junk

Just remember, don't go under a jacked up car. PUT JACK STANDS DOWN AND LOWER IT ONTO THEM. I have a traveling jack from Lowe's came with jack stands that is MUCH BETTER THAN A TORIN OR BIG RED (Pep Boys and Advance Auto Parts brands). It is made by Kobalt. It was like $50 for both the chromed jack and stands and a carrying case for the jack. I can get it under the racer right now when the cross member is about 4 inches off the ground.

My 3 ton Craftsman jack (and stands) have taken some pretty ugly beatings over its course and still has yet to fail me. However I have to jack up the otherside first if i have a flat because its just to big

Sams

Sams has one for $59 that is a nice size with a 22' quick lifting height and plenty of weight capacity at 3 tons. Nice heavy construction, but still handy to move around.

I have a 3.5-ton floor jack from Sam's. I also have a lightweight aluminum jack, but that will only be used for changing tires because it doesn't lift very high.

The heavy one from Sam's is not very low-profile, so I just park the car on boards before I lift it.

I agree with the above sentiments against trolley jacks, and absolutely, positively do not work on a car without jackstands.
