Ital Designs lost children.

Introducing the Subaru Justy prototype:

For comparison, the one we saw in production:


I think Subaru and Ital Design were more involved than they let on. Neither Subaru nor Ital Design have suggested that there is any relationship between the prototypes and production Subarus, but they sure look alike. Here are some prototypes and production Subaru models for comparison:

That last car is a Lotus Etna - you can see the similarity with the SVX (and indeed Subaru cars of that era) with the 'step' at the mirror/A-pillar junction

That last prototype car looks awesome! It does have strong similarities with both the XT6 and SVX.

The rear on that Lotus just screams "Testarosa" to me.

I'm not sure if I'd trade my SVX for anything, but a Lotus Esprit would make me hesitate. The Etna kinda has the same effect. Oh yes, 340 horsepower.

At least you could have removed the Renault hood emblem..
