she let me down...sigh

so there i was driving in the snow to breakfast when i hear a whining noise and then the mighty svx slowly grinds to a stop with all the dash lights aglow and a dead engine. i pop the hood to find a shreaded belt with half of it wrapped around one of the pullys. a chap in a mazda gives a ride and i've called the mechanic who's arranged for a tow to the shop. hopefully no damage, other than to my feelings at being let down.

We have non-interference engines don't we? So there probably isn't any damage besides the belt...I may have used the wrong term there though.

I don't think the alternator/ AC/ PS belt breaking has potential to do damage to any car.

He wouldn't have seen the timing belt unless he took the covers off, but you're right it also would not cause damage if it broke - due to the non interference design.

Yes, but how would for example the alternator diying cause the car to die? I'd think the battery would keep the car running for a little while. Thats something I've been wondering because I've heard about it around the boards.

Ah, don't worry about it, calmone. It's just a belt. Of course, it's possible that something seized and caused the belt to shred. But it's probably just a belt. No biggie.

Yeah, me too. Whenever I have a roadside breakdown, I don the pantyhose, & never fail to get a lift. I find fishnet works best, especially with gold stiletto heels.

The draw that the SVX has on the electrical system, drains a battery pretty quickly. Especially if you're running your lights.

Yep. I drove my Toyota pickup on its battery for an entire weekend. The SVX didn't last more than five miles.
