vBulletin has a built in feature called "Time Out" which can be used to put users on a temporary hiatus. Users in Time Out can use the PM feature but cannot post.
Banned users on the other hand have no access to the community whatsoever other than reading. |

If so, I'm willing to help out to the extent that my time allows....

YOU'RE MY BOY BLUE(Old School)
This place might need some more moderators, and everybody should put the Golden Rule on their Monitor in Direct Line Of Sight.

Behavior
Hi Randy, As far as I'm concerned, you can have the site any way you want it. You have probably heard the old saying " Don't **** were you eat" Well, some members, of all ages, just haven't got the message that being nice is always better than bad mouthing everyone and everything that THEY don't like. Normally, I'm willing to let anyone make an ass of themselves. But several have gone to far and have quite a few of the most valuable members upset. There is no fun in any of this. So if you can't play nice I suggest you pack up you toys and move along. No one here is interested in playing anymore. Take care, BOBB

looks good
looks good. everyone putting their input into this thread is good. it's a start to make the svx forum a great forum.
randy, lots of other forums out there. some only contain great information, some contain tons of bull****ters that do nothing but piss on each other. porter, i don't think it's your issue that sparked this thread. there has been alot of mud slinging that's been going on and many people have left because of that. some new rules like trevor's seem valid. timeout feature would be great. it's too bad we have to resort to these measures, but sometimes there are no alternatives unfortunately. if i can help in anyway let me know. |

As a moderator, I have gotten the message loud and clear. There will be some changes around here. This move is not by me alone, but by more discussion in the back ground and by some of the powers here. I will welcome the old mood back. There will be cost however. Not $$ money, but censorship, direction, and guidance.

Holy Cricket!!!!!
If we as a group spent as much effort and time that we are all wasting on threads like theses, there would already be a turbo kit available and the problems with the bearing and the tranny would have been solved by now!!!!
Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! |

im a little late here guys, but i voted for the first one as well. This forum was so controlled for most of its time, from the beggining till just a few months ago it was a great enviornment, i think that it is still a lot more controlled enviornment then say, nasioc, but it couldnt hurt to clean some things up a little bit.

I have been away a few weeks, and this is the first time I have turned on my PC to check in with the "family"
Having voted for the first option, I should point out that I am happy with a lot of the interaction on the site, and I believe that most of the mud-slinging and pissing contests are generated by a small number of the same old faces, over and over again. Far too many of the old friends have left or stopped posting because of this, and the newer conflict-prone and in-yer-face style posters are a lot less fun to engage with, or even just to browse their posts. Trevor makes some good points, and I do hope he has not left the fold, and what I have read was not correct. As a moderator myself, I have no problem moderating the European/UK forum. This is because the people using the service have innate respect for each other, are happy to be helpful, and understand the value of the words "please" and "thanks". Don't take this to be an anti-American comment, it is not meant as such, and Rob is correct in saying that larger numbers can lead to problem posts. However, note that above I mentioned most of the crap is coming from a very small antagonistic minority. The best regulation is self-regulation. Over emotive language, over aggressive responses, and petty personal insults will have to stop, one way or another. The people who keep firing petrol on the flames in the above ways, you know who you are, so give us all a break and keep it civil, otherwise the moderators and administrators will have to take steps, just like teacher back in skool. All adults here? Doesn't look much like it. Joe

Randy, I didn't vote. Your options are extremely limiting... being two extremes! There's got to be a "happy medium" where we can live.
Basically, I accept progress... and I accept our younger members who really just want to talk about our car. However, I don't think that I can honestly say that I'm completely tired of this place any more than I can say that I want it to stay exactly as it is. Sure, it could use improvement but it's not THAT bad. |

i stopped reading this thread about halfway.
how many sticks do you people have? (re: goodbye from trevor) i thought we were past this point of war. hasnt everything changed for the better already? i have to take credit for doing what i can to make things better, namely moderating MYSELF. nobody else can do that. what YOU can do is learn from the errors of the past, realize why they were made, and stop yourself from making them. life is an ongoing process of learning and change and we have to accept turbulent times in order to grow. getting through the difficult times and not running away is what makes this community strong. if you are strong stay. if you are weak leave.

I would have to say:
If you are thoughtful and want to help members, want to learn more about your car and repairs, enjoy the fellowship of members here, and want to talk about it, STAY If you want to make trouble, insult members, think your way or the highway, call others names when you don't agree with them, then LEAVE.
