Re: Mods for the tcu/engine Q:
obd2 limits you quite a bit. ecutune is the way to go but i don't believe there is one for the obd2. this makes the shift kits and power mode mod pretty much unecessary. power mode mod is easy to install a switch in the meantime if you want. search for it and you will see how people did it.

Re: Mods for the tcu/engine Q:
OBD 2 means you can't use any of the ECUtune stuff, neither the ECUs or TCUs.
I have read that the smallcar kit is not very good, but I've no personal experience with it. As I understand, it does pretty much what the QuickChange does, except the QC is entirely electrical. QC I had for a while, but now I get my jollies from the 6-speed. It definitely made the shifts firmer/quicker. If you live close to someone with one, it would be good to try before you buy. It's not going to hurt anything, you might just find that you don't like how that much shift-shock feels. The power mode mod is the very first thing I'd do. By far the most cost-effective mod you could ask for. Just a couple little wires and a switch and you've completely changed the attitude of the car. You no longer have to almost floor it to get it do downshift. The only downside is that the TCU won't lockup the torque converter while you're cruising until you turn it back off. If you can, put the switch on the thumb-button of the shifter. That's what I did in my black car (but lost manual mode, which I'm about 90% sure is due to a wiring mishap). It really makes a huge difference. The power mode mod also has the plus-side that it's something that was designed into the car, just never enabled. So it's not really a mod, it's more of a hack.

Re: Mods for the tcu/engine Q:
I didn't touch the manual pin. Cut the wires near the switch, attached them to a different switch, stuffed under the ashtray. Then ran one wire from the power mode pin, and one from ground to the thumb switch. I am pretty sure there's a fault with the wiring to the new manual switch, but I'm waaaaay too lazy to fix it since I've never found much use for manual mode, what with Florida being a largely snow-free zone and me actually having a manual one.

I have a whole spare plug of these that came with this TCU I picked up, they sent the plug attached to it. If so PM me with your address, I'll toss it in an envelope and snail mail it to ya on Monday morning. Here is a video of my 1992, with 198,000mi on her... Power mode mod. EcuTune v1.5. Small car Quick Shift. Intake silencer removed (plastic crap in fender). Everything else stock. I leave mine in power mode all the time. If I want to turn off power mode, I just turn on cruise control. The only time I don't want to be in power mode is when I'm just cruising on the highway anyways...
