exchange 4eat
Hello members
As you may know I am not comfortable with the way the 4eat is now working My question is if the 4eat of an Outback with number TZ 102Z3CBA-DK will fit my SVX 1992 ( also european) edit my trans has the number TZ 102-YP1BA Thanks for your reactions Rinus Last edited by subaru; 03-28-2012 at 12:14 AM. |

Re: exchange 4eat
Well, the first thing is to check the numbers on your current transmission. Is the 6th digit a "Z" or a "Y"? The "Z" means 4ACT and the "Y" is a VTD trans, if I am not mistaken.
The outback tranny is equipped with the MPT clutch only 4WD system (4ACT). Do not swap this in a euro spec VTD car. The Outback tranny also probably has 4.444 gearing (if from a 2,5 n/a) - I think the smaller engine had 4.11 gears - steer away, some of the clutch packs had less plates in these. The original SVX gears are 3,54 (FWD and JDM had 3,7). Anyway, you need to get the rear diff too with a compatible gear ratio. A properly modified TCU should also be used to keep a smile on your face . The Outback converter has a higher stall speed and if you use that you will loose some of the nice low end torque... The SVX converter can be used if it's not contaminated by a blown tranny. There are a whole number of more educated people than me here.... maybe some will chime in. Tapani |

Update
After checking the SVX myself (and with the great help of my brother) we found out that the hose to the cooler was not tightened.....(just a few mm's from popping off) Now shifts much better Rinus |
