Need some input on upcoming project
well since my svx has been garaged the whole summer, I figured why not start fixing littlet things that don't work. My first thing I would like to tackle is the air conditioning problem. The problem is it doesn't work.
My question is what are all the possible things that could be causing the air conditioning not to work? And how hard is it to fix it all? (replace and do it yourself), oh and does anyone no where to get the old freon type stuff for the 92's. I know it isn't available, but maybe someone "knows someone who knows" kinda thing. Thanks in advance, chris |

ALL the things??
Here's some, and one or more could be in combination...
compressor, condensor, evaporator, expansion valve, hoses, filter/drier, climate computer, ECU, throttle sensor, fans, trinary switch, solenoid diode, fuse, relay, wiring, switches, a whole variety of sensors, mode door motor, freon level high or low, oil issues...and of course there's always operator error.... There may be lots of R-12 around depending on where you look. The shop I go to will put it in for $0.50 per ounce plus their basic service charge (an SVX uses 18 to 22 oz). |

$8 / lb. is a heckuva deal Lee! R12 costs us $900 for a 30 lb. tank. The last time I looked that added up to $30/lb.

Didn't realize it had gone up that much. They did tell me the month before R12 was unobtanium, then they got a new source.
Maybe because it's on an Air Force Base. Not many taxes have to be paid on a military installation - for example, there's no sales tax even at the Burger King, and ATMs can't charge a fee, it goes on... for anybody on this site that's in the miltary, works for DoD, or is retired military, there's other good deals, like this one I just found for vacations www.afvclub.com |
