Thumbs up

all i know is i like 200 miles to 3/8 of a tank vs. 75 miles anyday and whatever can do that, i'll be using. i probally had some dirt build up somewhere that the acetone cleaned up over time cause i highly doubt this huge of an improvement just from the acetone. all i know is it works and i love it!

Question is, will that toluene cause any damage to you fuel lines/pump/engine/etc.?

It'd be hard to prove or disprove that, but I'm more willing to use nitrous before I use any chemicals like toluene, xylene, and acetone.

The only reason I'm using acetone right now is because I wouldn't mind if my beater Civic took a dump on the street. Heck, I'd probably be happy... It'd be an excuse to get another car.

So I was just curious about any additive I might add to keep her clean! I've had her sit so long sometimes I get the rocker noise (because she is as dry as a popcorn fart) and some smoke out the back.

I have a 67 Shelby Mustang that sits in my garage from October to April. I try to start the car about once a week [when possible] and let it warm up to normal operating temperature. Its critical for me to lubricate my valves and upper cylinder area to help insure a longer life for componets that are already over 38 years old and have 86 k miles on the internals. And especially because the valve seats were designed to be lubricated by leaded fuel. I use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant and fuel system cleaner to make sure the valves are properly lubricated at start up and during driving. I also recommend you treat your fuel system with a high quality upper cylinder lubricant, cleaner and stabilizer. Due in part to long term storage. And to help insure your upper cylinder area is lubricated at start up. Remember, it may take your oil five or six seconds after you start your engine before it reaches the rocker arms and several more seconds before the oil has a chance to lubricate them. And depending on the weight of the oil you use and a low ambient air temperature it may even take longer. http://www.lucasoil.com

Sport Compact Car just did a reasonably extensive test on commercially available octane boosters versus "strange brew" (Koo lookookoo koo loo kookoo- that outta weed out the youngsters here ) with some standard testing methods used by the automotive industry for fuel testing. Good read for those interested.

My take on it was that with the hassle factor involved in sourcing, blending and storing toluene and xylene versus popping in to Manny, Moe & Jacks and picking up a bottle of pep, that the negatives outweighed the positives.

As always YMMV.

Yeah, now that's a totally different deal than just dumping a bottle of the wife's nail polish remover into the tank with the expectation of improving performance or economy. After leaded fuel faded from the marketplace, I ran a "lead substitute" (brand forgotten) in my '68 Mustang daily-driver.
