Question 5 speed questions

Hi, all I have some questions about the 5 speed. Will a five speed from a 2.5 liter engine work well? How many owners of a five speed have encountered problems if so what kind? I was also wondering about how long the labor times where? Im looking to do the conversion over the winter. I would like to know as much information as I can befor the conversion goes down. How reliable have the transmisson been. Will a 2.5 liter suit an svx or is the svx to heavy for the trans?? I would be using a 4.11 diff. Would that help releive stress on the trans??''
Thanks,
--Miles

From what I read and hear, longevity shouldn't be a problem and the tranny bolts right up. I think small car takes 2 days to do the conversion???

The bolting of the tranny to the engine is the easy part. If your gona do the the whole conversion yourself I suggest you or a friend have some welding and fabricating ability for the cross member ,pedal assembly and shifter linkages. The wireing is easy and if you do the crossmemeber right the stock exaust will bolt right back up, but you might need to heat up the bolts on the manifolds to get it off.

There has been some disscusion on the BBS board that the Legacy turbo tranny is even stronger than the WRX trannys but I think if you treat it right an RS tranny will be just as good. Planning this as an over winter prodject is a good idea that way you won't rushed and you can do it right, good luck and as always keep us informed.

That's good to hear... I've had mine in now for about 6 months and I am very happy with it... I know you will be too... But remember, it is an almost completly diffrent car with the 5 speed in it, if you like the real quiet crusing and laid back drives then I'd say don't do the conversion, get your Auto rebuilt with 4.44's in there... That should give you some great acceleration... I'd always wanted to try that before I did my 5 speed... anyway, good luck and let us know how everthing goes!!!
