not svx but subie trans problem 4eat
Have a vary clean 97 outback starts up forward slow makes no noise, reverse slow no noise. take off in drive little noise shifts fine faster you go not more than 35 make lots of noise metal lathe like could this be the transfer bell?

My guess would be a detonated differential

Sounds like the front Diff blowed up. sample the fluid in the front diff and put a magnet in the sample. In a plastic bag first.
