yepee ! car is back .but have ??
well i got the svx out of the shop aftera week of geting the transmsion redone.. costed around 1,600 for everything..
including a rear motor mount that was toast. the torque converter was going bad and cluch packs .. along with a brass fiting that was broken that sent pressure to the RWD cluch packs causing the RWD never to kick in.. i put up posts abought this concern. the FWD was spining but the RWD never kicked in. well he said the reason the transmsion went bad was due to a TPS sesnor sending a wrong signal out "volatge" has any one ever heard of this hapeneing wouldnt a check engine line turn on.?? he said that if i dont get it replaced soon it will fail again also i wil see better preformnce from the enigne.. i have never heard of a TPS causing this..send wrong voltage out,, is this true or is he giving me aline of b.s ? he said the part was aroun 250.00 from subaru.. any ideas or input would help me out => other wise the transmsion shift awsome, kicks in nice and drives like its brand new. and verry glad to have my baby back .

Yup, they can build up resistance at their connection, and also have poor output as the swinging contact wears. Many times it's not so much a case of 'wrong' voltage as it is 'noisy' voltage. The weak contact of the swinging contact creates peaks and valleys of voltage that really confuse the heck outta the computer.
The computer almost never sees this voltage fluctuation or degradation as a problem, that's why the light never came on. If the voltage went way high, shorted to ground or had no voltage at all, then the light would set.

I'm afraid this could be true. Mine was giving me a 2-3 flare and the transmission shop replaced the TPS to make it go away. According to the tranny tech, the signal was within "tolerance," so, it didn't output a "code" to the system. At any rate, the flare went away after it was replaced.

how can you check this? I'm approaching 40k on my reman tranny and want to keep it as long as possible. Is there a way to test if your TCU is flaring???

There's no way to test. It's simply a condition. On the shift between 2nd and 3rd, the tach "flares" upward before the shift to third. Normall, there's a "hold" on the tach between shifts, but, when the transmission "flares" the tach actually surges instead of holding, as is normal.

Is it normal for the car to do that every once in a while?

f*ck.
- Ca$h PS: TPS= Throttle Position Sensor correct? can't you just replace this sensor or clean it instead of shelling out 250 bucks? |

Thanks for the heads up on the TPS sensor. My new 92 has been acting up in the rain and I'm trying to figure out the cause. That sensor is one more thing for me to look for

The TPS itself can be tested, but it should be done on the car with a high quality 'scope. Sometimes you can catch a glitch on a digital meter that has a high sampling rate, but I'd rather trust a 'scope.
22633AA080 Throttle Sensor Ay - $156 @ SVXParts.com Don't buy the Wells brand crap from Autozone for this (if still available), it's about $100 and will more than likely be nothing but trouble. Most people here know how I feel about Autozone, but this transcends that, the Wells line is pretty bad (read: cheap junk) no matter who sells it.

Re: yepee ! car is back .but have ??
I just replaced the TPS in SVX #2. Some symptoms: occasional funky shifting in third and fourth, no error codes, a power mode light with little variation in accelerator pressure. Bought a new TPS for $147.60 from 1stsubaruparts.com. As far as testing it while your driving. In my case with the TPS that came in the car the cruise control would not work properly causing the trans to repeatedly downshift and hunt and peck for 3 or 4th gear as well as locking and unlocking the torque converter. Since I replaced the TPS the cruise control works nice and steady.
