i know it probably is but i havent seen it in that place before mine is at the back of the console odd? were they put in deferent places on diferent years?

yes it is an ashtray and it is in that back of the counsil

i meant the ashtray is ontop of the back part of it

. my one is about three inches shorter than this one and has the ash tray verticaly on the back not horizontaly on the top

It is the same as mine. I believe the JDMs don't have the console all the way to the back seat so yours is different.

Mine looks identical to that. I have a '94 and yes, it's an ashtray.

Although I don't smoke, so I find it makes a great spot for collecting all my various reciepts

while the ashtray below my stereo holds my bluetooth headset when I'm not using it.

That console is a US Market console. All US Market SVX's are 4 passenger. 5 Passenger SVX's have a console like this one, which is probably what yours has:

yeah the one Green1995SVX put up is what my one looks like i would of took a photo but im an hours drive away from my svx . 5 people i dont know theres still only four seat belts and i have enuf problems with local cops they just look at my car and say alright pulll him up and then they ask me wat sort of a v8 is in it and im like not to be a smart ass officer but its a 6 cyl subaru and they call me a bull**** artist . after poping the bonnet the officer left just a little red in the face hahaha and drove off and didnt even give me a ticket yay

As far as I know the long centre console that divides the back seats effectively was only available in the US market.

I'm open to correction on this, because I'm not exactly certain about the German and French cars. However, I think they also got the shorter kind like that shown above.

It's not strictly correct to say the 5 seater cars had the shorter console. From what I have seen so far only the JDM market could be thought of as a 5 seater, due to the fact that the centre person in the back gets a lap seatbelt in Japan. On all other markets I have seen there are only 4 seatbelts, so by default they are designed for only 4 people, taking insurance issues in mind.
