Kudos for being able to take care of your own wheels !!! The big thing of course, is why would a woman want to when she can always find some guy who will do it for them. I mean, it's a value thing. What woman would be interested in a guy who can't even change his own oil? Or cannot even find the dipstick, let alone know what it's for.

and then there are others

congrats on changing your own oil. personally i have done oil, brakes, tires, belts and hoses, rear ends (swapped a posi for a single wing when the posi went out), one car (my first) was a lime green 1970 Plymouth Duster with a 318 and i used to carry altenators in the trunk because it was going through them every couple of weeks, so i was at the point that as soon as it started squealing i would pull over and have it changed and be back on the road in about 15 minutes (for those of you wondering, yes i did eventually slow down enough to trouble shoot the problem and fix it), and i have no idea how many tune ups and radio installs i have done. but that was before i met hubby number two, now he does everything and i just hand him the tools and do part runs, oh yeah sometimes i tell him what and how to do it! so if this old lady can do all of these things Jen then you can too. get busy!
p.s. i am not so sure how much the guys like it though when a female can out wrench them. so you may want to stop at the oil change. i know i never got asked out because of my mecanical abilities. but out driving them was always way fun!
sorry Jen but you asked. oh and i was 16 when i started all of these things and i haven't really turned a wrench much in the past 14 years. sometimes i do miss it but not much. by the way i am alwyas proud of every woman who can and does do their own repairs and upkeep.

Actually Yes, her dad taught her to work on cars before she had her drivers license (15-16yrs old??) so that she wouldn't be ripped off by a mechanic who might think of her as a stupid woman who knew nothing about cars.

(not trying to burst your bubble, just making a statement, I think it's great you change your own!)

in my case it was my brother who is two years older than me, and he just didn't want to be the one i called. he took me out in that green machine and said "i do not ever want to have to show you something twice!" then proceeded to show me all that he could.
P.S. Ron, i am done with all of that! check with Jen i bet she can clean injectors really well! but thanks for the offer! babies yuck!

Out wrench me, You would have to learn more than an oil change.. I stopped by a friends house once, the woman was checking the oil, she said I am a quart low then she proceeded to pour the oil down the hole she pulled the dip stick out of... only half as funny as the girl friend I had that pulled the dip stick out of it's HOLDER took off the oil cap and stuck it in and said this is always empty. Oh I heard guy stories too, The guy that draind the tranny fluid on a VETT and added an extra 4 QT.s to the oil pan. Or the guy that pulled the drain plug and drained the oil and as he was adding the 6th Qt to the CAR AND CHECKING THE DIP STICK LEVEL ASKED HIS BOSS HOW MUCH DOES THIS CAR TAKE ANYWAY . He then looked down to see he was standing in a pool of oil. ( left the plug out) I think it is great that girls learn that stuff. I teach women to ride Motorcycles I think every woman should be able to drive a stick shift also. Every girl and BOY of our family/ friends does. All own std shift cars too.
