would it require anything more than a hammer, screwdriver, or cordless drill? that's about the extent of what kind of tools we have.

Well my collection of tools has dwindled some of the course of the past few (ok 10) years, however some/most autoparts chains (major chains that is) will rent or even loan tools specific to the job being done (or in my case it would give me an excuse to buy a bunch of tools! )

If you have the pedals and crossmember made for you you won't need to weld. Just get a driveshaft lengthened and you're set.

Oh, you may want a tranny jack (but any jack will work if you have 2 people).

1) Trade car before the tranny fails.
2) Do not tell dealer about failing tranny
3) ????
4) Profit.

I took a look at shelf's car and it seems that there is no flaring. The 1-2 shift is a little slow, but everything seems good. I attempted to do the brake band adjustment, but the nut was torqued down pretty good. We probably could've gotten it loose if we really wanted to, but I think he should be ok.

Ken, let me know how the throttle body cleaning turned out!

there was a subtle, but still noticeable difference with the cleaning. are you sure you didn't move the nut at all? the 1-2 shift is firm, but seems to be happening at a really high rpm, like 5000 under normal acceleration. can this be a bad thing? in any case, we decided not to go camping tonight. i'll probably talk to you tomorrow.

Nope, that nut didn't budge at all. If that shifting bothers you, try resetting the ECU and see if it goes back to normal.

well i did something drastic that i thought i'd never do. today, i traded in teh claret and the jeep on a hyundai! this move will save me about $300/month so it's not all bad. i always figured i'd have the claret forever, but after several hours, i negotiated them down to where i could be happy with my decision. in any case, i hope to be in another svx in the future. oh wait! i still have one! now do i put it into weekly driver status?

A Hyundai? Tsk tsk!

Get a big fart can exhaust and an aluminum wing for it!
