Barcelona Red - Yikes!

I spoke with the owner of a Barcelona Red '94 SVX today outside a local coffee shop here. One thing i noticed about the paint was that it seems all the plastic parts on the car that are painted were fading very badly. Is this a common problem with this color, or what could have been the cause? I've never seen anything like it.

My 94 is fading a little as well. It needs a ton of hand grease to keep her up to colour. Perhaps that red has problems

Significant Technical Input
Typically red fades faster than any other color. It is also usually the most expensive color in the can. Lots of pigments make it a very heavy paint. I've had a couple red cars in the past and I'd swear they would lose luster sitting in the garage.

I know this is easier to say than do (for most people) but here's the secret to keeping a red SVX like new:

Garage it and wax it (a lot). My '96 LSi is like new.

If you see that owner again, remind him that Barcelone Red was only used on the '93 25th Anniversary SVXs. '94-'97 SVXs were available in only one red - Brilliant Red.

The two colors are rather different.

I was under the impression that 95 was the first year for brilliant red. Learn something new every day!

I have a 94 L with barcelone red. I know because barcelone red is darker than brillant red. And the colour code says so too.

Just a Christmas promo for Zymol. My daughter recently spent a week back home from school, parking her '91 dark red Escort wagon in the driveway, thus reducing property values for miles around. It's probably been washed twice in five years, & the finish resembled reddish moss. Anyway, as a pre-Christmas present I tested my Zymol on it & was amazed at the results. Minimum labor in under an hour & it looked almost new. How long this will last is anyone's guess, but the act of waxing has certainly come a long way, since the, "first the compound, then the cleaner, then the wax" etc.
Best wishes to all for the coming year.
Ron.
