Nomad,
Sad, sad, news indeed. At this point in time do NOT panic. It could be right for you. Try, try to get a new job doing exactly what YOU WANT to do and you will have success in life. Put EFFORT into it and we here will be beside you. At the moment, in another thread, I am being accused of being a nasty old fart through stating FACT is FACT and trying to place myself in some form of superior position as a result of my age. I hope that you appreciate my sencerity. If you require some adult advice or whatever, send a PM. I am at your service.

Wow man sorry to hear that.
When I got out of the Navy They sent me to a week long course to assist in transition It was a good course. I'll try to pass alot of the key things on to you that have worked for me. 1. NETWORK! NETWORK! NETWORK! this is hands down the most important 70% of all jobs are filled this way. Seriously all pride aside talk to everyone. I found my job because the girl behind the counter at my Gym, gave me her dads number who connected me with one of his co-workers who connected me with the lady who hired me. The only reason she gave me her number was because I talked to her about it. 2. Try to keep the same type of daily schedule, you know get up in the morning job search when you would have been at work and then (to a degree) do the normal things you would do after that time. Your job search will represent your time and keep you from falling into a slump. As an example I always went to the gym in the morning before work so after 2 days of moping I got my ass back up at 5am and went to the gym had I have not done that I'm pretty sure I would not have the job I have because I would never have ran into the girl who gave me her dads number. 3. Don't hang your hat on the Internet or the paper. i'm not saying don't look there but just remember if you see it in the paper or on the internet so has everyone else. AGAIN, I'm not saying don't try there just don't dedicate all your time to it. 4. Don't let pride stop you from taking a job you might not want, its just temporary. 5. Did I mention Networking hope that helps. Good luck hunting. Shane |

Very well said Shane!
Nomad ... Keep your head up! and if you want to go into sales and marketing... why not try some of the dealerships... You will learn first hand a bunch of sales methods that you just can't learn in school. I've sold everything from Encyclopedias to Radio Air time... It took me quite a while and bouncing around a lot to come to where I am... (Wherever that is... ) Good luck!

If you truly want to be in sales, and especially auto sales, cold call, and I mean knock on the door on the dealership & ask - no... DEMAND to speak with the sales manager. Tell him/her you HAVE to sell cars....you're geneticly wired for it. Don't take "no" for an answer. If you quit demanding for chance to be a salesman, the manager will look at this a "red flag" of weakness. Sales managers LOVE persistance. It's what sells cars. Go for it!
Ron.

Sales is a very tricky field and not for everyone. Can you believe the Navy also sent me to a 5 week class on sales, well then in your opinion do you FEEL this is the (insert whatever) for you.... Its important to remember that people buy based on emotions they may swear up and down that they don't but they do buy based on emotions and then find facts to justify it. Sales is playing with psycology. oh yeah i got off on a tangent I agree with what Ron said. and get a little info on the cars you may want to sell. But don't take no for an answer until they call security. |

i absolutely know that sales is for me
everything i've done in the past 3 yrs has had some sales aspect to it it all started in the summer of 2000 i got a job for the summer at vector marketing, selling cutco, and i'm sure some of you have them, they're good knives... anyway, from that moment i was hooked, i LOVE selling, but that job made me no money, and after the summer i went back to college, for engineering, which i now knew was NOT for me, but i stayed at it and failed miserably... blah blah, left school came back and was lookin for a job and ended up at wendy's OFH, i was predominantly a cashier, and in case you didn't know they track the sales of the cashiers, and the biggie size percentages, they have bonuses and prizes and such for the top biggie sizer of the month and such, well the 4 mo that i was there i was top every time, w/ something like a 75% biggie size, most ppl were in the 40% range or lower but then i got the job at the bank, and banks are very sales oriented, i was at the bank for about 9 months and i was the top in sales for the employment level, and when i got my promotion to service consultant i was also made sales leader, to coach the rest of the staff and boost sales of bank products and such, then i had to quit before i got the promotion i had put otu at car dealerships, and it made it back to my manager that i was lookin for another job, and to keep me she promised that when i got the promotion i'd get bumped to 9/ hr if i promised to stay... so i stopped persisting at the dealerships in turn for the money and because i really liked my boss well before i got promoted my boss transfered to a different dept, and i didn't get 9/hr i only got 8.23, and the new manager sucks horribly... so that was why i was gonna quit anyway... but now i'm gonna go back to the mitsubishi dealer and talk tot he sales manager again, and try to get a sales job there, i could totaly sell mitsubishi's
