Anyone out there got any good remedies for getting rid of cigarette stink...Thankfully not real heavy, but there none-the-less...

Any help appreciated...

If you know someone with a "Living Air" air purification system with ionizer, you could sit it in your car for about an hour, on high, and it should completely eliminate any odors. Other than that, maybe some "Fabreze" on the carpeting. I think Beav also had a remedy for stink in the AC filter, but, can't remember what it was. If, perchance, you DO find someone with a "Living Air" machine, make sure you run the A/C for about the last 15 minutes of the hour, to remove AC filter odors.

All AC systems have filtration. It just isn't something you replace, like your filter in your home AC.

I had luck with Fabreze on the fabric surfaces and Clorox wipes on the plastic and glass. It really helps to be able to open the car up and let some fresh air blow through.

I had to do it a couple of times, but it eventually worked.

Remember to do every surface in the car, including the headliner (ESPECIALLY the headliner) and sunvisors. Since the smoke tends to rise, those surfaces really absorb the odor. The particles in smoke will also coat the glass, so clean the glass thoroughly.

Fortunately, it wasn't my SVX that I had to do this to.

I advise against those little cardboard pine tree deodorizers - you're swapping one nasty toxic odor for another.

I am not sure if they are called the same thing but here you can either hire (or have someone come out) with an ozone machine (I think) that neutralises smells (they use it to remove smoke smells from buildings after fires) - Lexus use it on their pre-owned cars that fall under warranty (the most amazing detail jobs by the way!!) so that may be worth a shot

James

pS: congrats on the car and many many millions of miles of safe SVX motoring!

pps: May your tranny outlive the car!

How about something like this?

http://www.purehomeair.com/cgi-bin/i...52&inner_h=694

click on the car & truck link

The ex was spraying fabreze in my civic and my sebring and I gotta tell ya...Reminded of me of science class in jr high. Perhaps the particular fragrance (if you want to call it that) just did not agree with me...I'll have to sniff test if they have different scents

Thanks........

whenever my friends smoke in my car I just leave the sunroof open and the windows cracked about an inch overnight and I can't smell it anymore. Then again I used to be a casual smoker (about 5 a week) so I can't vouch for my smoke smelling abilities

Significant Technical Input
Anything that cleans will help. Take the floor mats out at the car wash and hang them on the clips and blast 'em as if they were rubber. Just leave them out in the sun for a few hours to dry. You'll not only get rid of cig smell but also old dried mud, etc.

The only real problem for cleaning is the headliner - if you attempt it be very careful. Better yet, try this place: www.airsept.com It's what most new car dealers use (that I've seen - not a scientific poll, margin for error very great )

Ozium works great - found at Pepboys or other car parts stores. they have regular and "new car smell" - my pot-smoking younger brother told me about the Ozium. don't use alot!!! my favorite, though, is Griot's Garage New Leather scent.

I was thinking more along the lines of one of these units:

http://www.ecoquestintl.com/prods/livingairpage.htm

But only because I'm a distributor (was trying hard not to "pitch"). I know they work, so if you know of someone who has a unit, try it. It also does the "ozone" treatment that James spoke of. The unit I use, processes the air for a 5,000 square foot house, so, no problem with the SVX.

I said Fabreze to save time - it was actually a copycat product from Target that was unscented, thank God.

I'd sometimes rather put up with the stink than with the perfume.

And don't you guys get started on that!!!
